It would be likely for a man of his time to have that appearance - especially one who traveled a lot.
So no, there is no image of him like that (as far as I can recall) in the bible, but it's a very very good guess for him to have looked like that.
Now, the coloration that they chose for him - that's an entirely different story.

Hello,
I think your hunch is right. Many great pictures painted of Jesus were done from the 1100's to the 1600's where long hair and beards were the norm. You'll note the architecture and dress in the paintings of those around him, including Roman soldiers were of those particular times and not the first century.
As an analogy the movie arts do the same sort of thing. If you look at movies made on subjects like Robin Hood to Westerns made in the 40's and 50's everyone has short styled bryllcream slicked hair, the fashion of the decades.
Cheers,
Michael Kelly

Fabricated by artists, most definately. There exists no known drawing of what the real Jesus would have looked like. Especialy the blond hair/blue eyed look is most definately fabricated, since if Jesus had lived at all, he would have been a Jew with brown skin, dark eyes and black hair, most likely. He probably would have worn a beard, such as most orthodox Jews wear. But its all speculation, since no proof even exists that he ever lived, never mind what he looked like.

Man, o you read the Bible? Of course, the Bible don't have illustartions. But the jesus with the long hair and beard is symbolic display of power and majesty in art. There are some Roman paintings of Jesus that he is a beardless shepherd thus presenting his gentle side.

No, but he was a Jew from the first century AD. So you know, Jews from the first century AD had a lot of facial hair, as did most men around the world. They didn't have a bunch of Gillette or Bic Razors floating around. And people worked hard and didn't have a bathroom or a place with a mirror usually to shave in.

There are some Jewish men even today that don't cut their hair for religious reasons and he was probably of that thought. Samson was one.
