You really are putting your dogs well-being at risk here. By bathing as often as you are you are stripping the natural oils from his skin and coat and leaving him prone to skin problems.

Does he scratch a lot? I bet he does! Those chemicals that you are bathing him in so often are drying out his skin, leaving it dry, flaky and itchy. He will end up scratching himself till he bleeds which will then leave him open to infection.

I really can't understand why you would want to bath your dog so often.

Ok, not the worst thing in the world. But definately not necessasary at all. Bathing a dog too often, prevents the dogs natural oils from protecting against skin irritations. Especially using any heavily perfumed amped up pet shampoos and/or regular shampoo.

If your dog just enjoys water and you do not use any soap or shampoo, then there is no problem at all. If you just have a stinky dog, try switching your dogfood to a top quality chow! A good diet helps lessen the "dog" smell.

There are also bath wipes that you can purchase for your pooch. A good wipe down with one or 2 of those every week or so should also help to keep the stink at bay! Good luck

BAD! You are damaging your dogs coat and skin. By bathing you are stripping away the natural oils that your dog produces to moisturize their coat and skin. Dogs should not be bathed more than once a month and that is the very most. When you do bathe use a gental shampoo made with oatmeal, aloe, or tea tree oil with no artificial scents or perfumes. If you are having a problem with odor issues, it is not at all your dogs hygene. The most common problem of that dog stink is cheap (poor quality) food. Anything you can find at a grocery store is total crap.

I had a therapy dog that had to retire due to over bathing. In order to take the dog it is a requirement the dog be bathed that day. She developed a skin condition that took almost a year to rectify. I was only bathing her twice a month. What are you doing to your dog? Stop that and ask your vet how often is necessary for your particular breed. Dogs that require grooming will be bathed more than those that dont.

YES! It's not only a bad idea, but you're harming your dogs health too!

A dog shouldn't be bathed more than once ever two weeks or once a month because it strips vital oils out of their body... dogs do not sweat (they pant instead), so the best alternative is to buy a can of J & J cornstarch baby powder and power Fido down and brush him or her out every other day if they smell instead of giving them a bath.

I agree with Adelaide!

Why are you asking, common sense even dictates that there's no need to unless,...... you have an obsessive compulsion for cleanliness/sterile things (inc. pets) around you.
OR the doggy's constantly every alternate day falling into a big mud pile!

* Seriously, you ARE taking all his natural good oils out of his skin and fur. Your dog could be a candidate for severe skin problems (which can be debilitating to suffer and watch when they flake, have open sores fr. scratching/biting,.. rash all over). Do you not have anything better to do than scrub a dog down 3-4 times a week????

yes this can cause very serrious dry skin and may even lead to skin disease. a dog shuoldn't be bathed more than evey moneht at the most. that is unless it has mange or something where it needs to be treated as perscribed by the vet. Even as a groomer I prefer to do every 6-8 weeks inbetween groomings.

Bad idea. Unlike humans, dogs don't sweat (they cool themselves by panting...). Because dogs don't sweat, they don't get stinky bacteria like humans do. If humans don't regularly bathe, they stink. Not so with dogs. Don't give the dog routine baths. Just wash him when he's dirty.

Now that you done the damage to your poor dog"s skin and fur, you should start giving the dog fish oil capsules (they are in the human vitamin section at store). That will start to replace the lost oil in the dog's skin and fur. And will make the fur shiny and pretty.
