Perhaps study up a bit more - real history, not revisionist history.
BTW, the Russian Orthodox Church was still in existence and still running. Just because Stalin was an atheist, he didn't require everyone else to be.

Honestly though, it seems that communism was oppressive simply because the atheists in charge WERE clever, they figured out how to considerate their power most efficiently in their situation, and it worked. They found ways to satisfy their people without actually benefiting them... That is cleverness, even if it is being used unproductively.

I agree with you that Communism went really wrong and the only thing in common was Stalin's dictatorship.
On the other hand atheism does not mean communism. I know of many atheists, agnostics who are not communists at all.
