First, I would say I like my oatmeal in a bowl. It's a lot less messy that way.
I cook regular oatmeal, not the instant type. The texture is much better than non-instant.
I put a couple of packages of sweet & low on it and add 2% milk.
My wife, on the other hand, likes very little milk, and dumps quite a blob of molasses on it.
It is good with almost anything, depending on your taste for variety...if you like bananas, then that works...If you like 30w motor oil, then that works for you, too...might taste funny though...
We eat oatmeal on the average of 3 times a week. It's just plain goooooood.....

I just had a bowl of old fashioned oatmeal, as a matter of fact. I cooked it in the microwave then added a pinch of sea salt, three ounces of whole milk, and about a tablespoonful of raisins. It's quite satisfying.
Sometimes I don't bother cooking it. Just add water and raisins, sometimes nuts, let it sit for a few minutes, then add milk and eat. It tastes good that way too, more like granola.

Applesauce on your oatmeal! That is luxury.
Usually I put on brownsugar and butter, and a little cinnamon. And cook the oatmeal so it is like meal, not soupy. Oatmeal should not be a liquid. Always use whole rolled oats, not those choppend up stuff.
Oh yes, don't forget the rasins!
Secoond day is really good. Make a patty and grill it in butter. Crispy soft and ssssssssssssssssssssssssss. So yummy. Fried rasin edges.

I like my oatmeal "steel cut"... And I like it with brown sugar and a bit of non fat milk on it. Don't forget to add the raisens and banana slices! Oh good grief, it's 11:50 pm and now I have a craving for a bowl of oatmeal!

This will sound a little weird, but I like to add a little coffee, some brown sugar and a little milk or cream.
You sound like you like yours sweeter than I like mine, but I do think the taste of coffee and oatmeal go well together. I usually just spoon a little in from my coffee cup.

Your choice of toppings is excellent but I prefer oatmeal with milk added but without these toppings as these toppings only add far too many calories and increase cholesterol levels which otherwise oatmeal is supposed to reduce.

I like my oatmeal with a pinch of brown sugar or molasses, some chopped walnuts, and a lot of cold, whole milk. Very nice.
