The absense of God in ones life leaves a big hole. Many try to fill it with worldly things. If they could find Jesus they could realize that nothing here is permanant or worthy of struggle.
they say he who dies with the most toys wins. I disagree. a poor man in heaven is much better off than a rich man trying to figure out what's more important his Spirit or his money.

Of course!
I gave up 'materialism' about 10 yrs. ago. I still wear clothes that are over 10 yrs. old! and I don't give a damn what people think!
I work part-time, by choice, so I can enjoy life. I make enough to live on, help friends who need it, and give to my charitable organization.
Guess what?... I'm richer for it: I own my car, I will have paid off my mortgage in 6 yrs, and I have a beautiful dog.
PS... I'm not religious!!... when I was religious, I had exactly the opposite to what I have now: Peace.

you're right. STUFF doesn't make you happy, it just weighs you down...
i guess if you don't realize that then you just keep looking for contentment in THINGS, and when this thing doesn't make you happy you try the next thing...and it's not even always physical things...it can be this religion, then that one...
i guess you do that if you're not comfortable with yourself, trying to find some way to escape yourself...
i'd rather just be content and peaceful anyway

your spiritual aunt was absolutely correct. I have learned through life- with health issues and financial difficulties due to husband being disabled and I unable to work full time that to be content where I am. I admit it gets hard sometimes both health and money wise- however this past week again God touched my heart by leading me to this passage of scripture.'
Ps.37:4- "Delight yourself in the Lord, and He will give you the desire of your heart". When we make God our greatest desire- other stuff just seems to fade away.

It should be, but it is a human trait to look for something more all the time. On one hand this might be seen as egoistic, but remember that science and technology which we all enjoy are a result of this wanting more, wanting to know more.

Very true...Ive known lots of people who were deeply miserable and when I asked them isnt it just great to be alive? they usually get a bit snotty or pissed off, for me being such a smartass, but hey, everyday above ground is a good day, I cant help it if Im enjoying just being alive.

It's not "better" - but "wiser" ! the wonderful state or condition of this world, attests to the fact, that "more is better".
Just take a look around. War, famine, crime, global warming, nuclear arms etc. - simply wonderful !!! When is enough - ever, enough ? !!! Most people aren't needy - but GREEDY !!!
