Sometimes I feel Him so close it's almost like He's sitting right beside me and other times it feels as though He's not even there. How can I keep Him with me all the time?

If you are a born again spirit filled christian He is with you even if you don't feel Him.

Remember emotions are from the soul, God lives in the Spirit.

However, God will may withdraw Himself deep in the spirit when we sin. If we sin, follow our soul, and don't let the spirit rule, then its us who is really walking away from Him.

Faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God, when he feels far away, pick up a Bible, sometimes during the day just count the many blessings you have and you will just start praising his name. Remember the Holy Spirit is always there, we are the ones that go away. Jesus Christ, the same yesterday, and today, and for ever. Faith will give you peace, and the Holy Spirit will flow out of you like the what Jesus told the woman at the well. John 4: 14 But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life. Obviously I am preaching to myself here to. Your question is a great reminder to all Christians, for we all have those same feelings from time to time.

If your filled with the Holy Spirit, then that means He's always within you working. if you have the Holy Spirit in you, You are now controlled by your new nature and not the old sinful nature that never did please God. He never leaves us, We are the only ones who can leave him. Look in Roman Ch. 8. Romans 8:26-28 And in the same way, by our faith, the Holy Spirit helps us with our daily problems and in our praying. For we don't even know what we should pray for,nor how to pray as we should; but the Holy Spirit prays for us with such feeling that it cannot be expressed in words. And the Father who knows all hearts knows, of course, what the Spirit is saying as he pleads for us in harmony with God's own will. And we know that all that happens to us is working for our good if we love God and are fitting into his plans.
The Holy Spirit is the Lord's presence in your life, Philippians 2:13 For God is at work within you, helping you want to obey him,and then helping you do want he wants.
Galatians 5:22 But when the Holy Spirit controls your lives he will produce this kind of fruit in us: LOVE, JOY, PEACE, PATIENCE, KINDNESS, GOODNESS, FAITHFULNESS, GENTLENESS AND SELF-CONTROL;and here there is no conflict with jewish laws.
GAL. 5:25 If we are living now by the Holy Spirit's power, let us follow the Holy Spirit's leading us in every part of our lives.
If you are pleasing the Lord in everything you do , comunicating with him everyday (prayer) and you trust in him, you'll draw nearer to him, And have a closer relationship with him. You'll start feeling his presence more often. You can also read 1 Corinthians it tells you about the special abilities the Holy Spirit gives to help the church. Which is The Lord because he's the head of the Church and we his servents (children) are his body, who each of us has a part in helping the church. i hope this helped you.

You are the temple of the Holy Spirit and He is in you all the time. Start the day by praising and worshipping the Father in spirit and in truth. Be conscious of the presence of the Holy Spirit in you and expect Him to speak to you and guide you. When you feel that you are far from Him it is because you have taken your eyes away from Him.

The HolySpirit is with you all the time if you are a believer. He is your teacher and guide., Jesus said, "I will not leave you comfortless (an orphan), I will send you the Holy Spirit." All you have to do is communicate with the Spirit and ask for His comfort, guidance, or let Him teach you about life. I suggest that you always ask for His leading as you study the Scriptures. You will find that He is a great teacher! You are never alone. Cultivate a relationship with your God - He wants to draw near to you. "Draw near to Me and I'll draw near to you." says Jesus.

Joh:14:16: And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;
Joh:14:17: Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.
Joh:14:18: I will not leave you comfortless:...SELAH (Meditate on this).

Once the Spirit enters your life (it must be your total life) {He} will never leave you. You feel {Him} close to you because you are consentrating, meditating and communicating with {Him} it is when you take your thoughts and place them on other things, problems, things of a worldly nature that it seems {He} is not with you.

Place these words before your eyes until they are firmly fixed in your heart.

Though I waldk in ways unknown I am never left a lone, for the Lordd will not forsake me while I do his will, Bkut whatever may betide, He is walking by my side and by this I know He loves me still.

When the raging storm winds blow and the clauds are hanging low when the waves are beating on me and the night is chill, then his presence in the storm quiets all my soul's alarm and I know that he is with me still.

Mid the busy cares of life, in the battle's raging strife, when around my soul are gathered all the hosts of ill, then a voice so sweet and clear whispers words of love and cheer and I know that he is with me still.

He is with me still, oh yes, he is with me still in the sunshine or the shadow, he is with me still.

Continue to place your Faith, Trust, and Assurance in the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, and truely know that you have brothers and sisters who are going through just like you and WE, are walking and praying in the Spirit for you and that you may grow in faith and be assured you are never alone.

princess is right in what she said.
but I know exactly how you feel.
I love what my pastor says,
"sometimes he feels further then the moon and sometimes he feels closer then my skin"
How true is that.

You should know this though, when you get baptized in the Holy Spirit, he is with you thru thick and thin from that point on as long as you serve and love and follow God. He is the helper that Jesus Promised us.
The Holy Spirit dosent come and go, its there, in you. But there are times when he fells further, like when you sin, dont read the word enough, pray enough, worship enough, witness enough, or a combanation of any of those. Or he could just be brining you thru a time when he says ok, you dont need a crutch lets see how you can walk, will you follow me when you dont feel me?

For me there are times I feel God saturating me, Its amazing and theres nothing like it. Its not why im saved for that feeling but it is cool that he dose give me that. and I have seen him use me when his presence is on me like that, people fall out, people be healed, demons cast out. I have.
There are also times though when I dont feel him, and thats even when Im pluging in and being dilagent. And yet when I pray for people, BAM, God rocks them, and I see people fall out, people weeping when I pray for them, God just meets them. I dont feel a thing the entire time. and you know what, that (when your dilagent) isnt nessisarly a bad thing, he could just be saying, will you still belive that you can see the same results even when my presence isnt on you like when you just want to drop on your knees in my presence and forget the world.?
Something to think about.

added:
I ment to add this sorry.
Its the anointing that comes upon you and his presence flowing more thru you when you feel that rockin feelin. You can walk in/out of that anytime really with the exceptions of Gods testing you or your not dillagent/have a hidden sin in your life.

I would like to relate a story that may help you understand. There was a man and his wife of 45 years driving down the road in their old Pick up, well the woman looked over and said, "Honey do you remember when we got together we sat close and you put your arm around me s we drove down the road?"
"Yes" he replied.
"Why dont we do that anymore?" she asked/
"Sweetheart," he gently chided, "I m still sitting where I always do/"
The moral of the story is this, if you do not feel close to God then it is you that moved!
