I live in Concord, CA and I am a first time young adult living on my own with a tight budget and not enough food to get me by. I'm afraid my body isn't getting the nourishment it needs. I live off oatmeal, pasta wout anythinh on it, rice, and if I get lucky tofu. But there are no veggies there and I don't want to apply for foodstamps. What can I do, also looking into and vegetable gardens that could use help in exchange for free veggies. Please give me your thoughts and advice. Thanks.

Try looking to see if there is a food bank in your area. Also, you could perhaps request assistance from your church or a religious organization. Also, see if there is an organization that gives free meals. You could hopefully get some nutrition that way. There might be a community garden where you can work for vegetables. In my city there is a restaurant that will allow people to eat in exchange for labor. I am so sorry for your situation and I wish you happiness and good health.

I volunteer at a Food Bank run by the Salvation Army, it serves single adults as well as families.

You could check churches in your area.

The LDS (Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints) often called Mormons, has a church welfare plan. It doesn't require you to be a member but it works on the principle of a hand up not a hand out. It helps people find work housing etc and can help with food etc when needed. You would need to contact their local Bishop. Expect to leave a message as they have no paid clergy and he will also have a day job.

Any church will help you if you just call & ask, although I see no shame in asking for gov't assistance 'til you get on your feet a bit. That's what it's for. The shame is if you make a living off taxpayers a lifestyle practice.
Local baptist associations & Catholic Charities are a couple around here.

I think every area has a "St. Vincent de Paul food pantry.

They are not judgmental.

You do NOT need to be Catholic to ask for help.
