If you look back on The history of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, you'll discover that there were black Saints that had the priesthood confirmed upon them in the Joseph Smith era. And continued through the 19th and into the 20th century.

As for the baptisms for the dead, these are ordinances that are performed by temple recommend holders (worthy males and females) of the church. We baptize so many people, that we don't think of what faith they believed in at the time of their passing. We just feel that we are doing God's work that he has instructed us, through his prophets, to do.

Wow. I have no idea. I'm not a Mormon. I hope that a Mormon here can answer that, because I'd really hate to think that this is true. Maybe it's just one of those things people say about the Mormon belief out of ignorance or hatred for Mormons? I've seen plenty of that around here, so who knows?

I've got nothing against the Mormons EXCEPT the part where they keep genealogical records of everyone in order to baptise them after they die. Doesn't matter if the person being baptised by them was a Mormon or not, either.

We as Jews believe this is very much like trying to steal our souls and place them into idolatry, and some Jewish organization or another sued the hell out of the Mormon church for it a few years back and they were ordered to stop doing it, but have not done so.

They will say that they ONLY do it now with permission from the deceased's relatives, but this is not usually the case, at least with Jews - very few, if any, Jews would ever give permission for something like this to be done to their relatives, yet it is still done on a regular basis.

That's about all I know about the Mormons. Other than Donny and Marie Osmond.

No
If you look at the Bible and the priesthood authority in the Bible only very specific people were allowed to hold that authority. It was banned to quite a few groups of people.
Blacks were considered to be in a line of ancestory that the priesthood authority was banned to.

The limitation of priesthood authority was lifted a while back and it was revealed that all worthy men were able to hold that priesthood authority.

Even when the priesthood ban was in effect it didnt mean that anyone was incapable of salvation. Women still dont hold the priesthood authority and they are perfectly capable of achieving salvation.

The church has officially stopped baptizing jews without the consent of family members
Mormons actually have a pretty good relationship with the jewish community, esp here. Sometimes they use our buildings for special occasions if they dont have room of their own because we dont use crosses in our buildings. Mormons believe very closely in the Old Testatment teachings with regards to jewish beliefs.

No!!!

Please refrain from racist comments!!

Being a black Mormon, I know a little about this -- I have as much of a claim on salvation as does the prophet or any other member of the church.

PS -- I'm not reporting your racism -- I am just appealing to your sense of self-respect to stop being racist

A pure calumny. The Mormons have never taught such a thing--at least, not since the 1970's. Since then it's only been an informal teaching, not a doctrine.

Anyway, a black who truly repents will turn white, so what's the harm?

Nope, just another nasty Mormon rumor. If you want to get real answers, go to the church's website:

Yes... and that we're from the planet Kolob!! wow, eh??

I love religious nutts and they take the cake.

I like to see how gullible people really are: to what depths they will go to deny reality, the truth, and the value of life itself.

Why are you religious people so afraid of life??

Recent Mormon movements have more deviated from the anti-black beliefs they used to have, but yes, that's what they used to believe strongly.

(I'm a Christian, not a Mormon)

Not any more. They ammended the religion when the federal government threatened to cut off funds for roads, etc. in the 60'.
The church leaders told the congregation it was a commandment from God.
