Isaiah was speaking for God and was prophesying to the Israelites that Jesus IS the Immanuel, and that He would be born of a virgin. Immanuel, meaning "God with us", is saying that Christ was God in flesh and would dwell among humans. That is why He is called Immanuel.

kz: "Emmanuel" - translated "God is with us" [roughly] describes both, WHO and WHAT God was doing here, on the earth. Since Jesus or "Emmanuel" was God in the flesh, dwelling amongst His creation - people, to go about saying He was God would most definitely ignite a barrage of hate and disdain for Him. This can be found in Matthew, chapter 1, verse 3, of the New Testament.

Matt 1:23 as Daniel stated. Emmanuel means "God with Us". Jesus has many names, and Emmanuel is just one of them.

Matthew says: “Now all this was done that it might be fulfilled which the Lord spoke by the prophet, saying: Behold a virgin shall be with child, and bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.” (Matt. 1:22, 23, Dy) According to God’s command, the child was named Jesus.
