Why the need for a oral tradition and written text for hundreds of years (and continuing today) when so many people were/are illiterate?

Perhaps I should be clearer: Why the need for an oral tradition and written text ... *that must be translated and transcribed and therefore not only "might" but *will* lose its precision over time*?

Umm... it seems many of you are missing the point of my question. It's not a question of God filling me (or anyone) with His grace. Instead, why a physical tome instead of just giving us the information instead? This would not violate free will (with the exception of choosing to accept the "upload"); we would still make our own choices whether to have faith in His word.

Well, there are many reasons (one of them is the concept of free will)..... being illiterate does not necessarily mean that you lack Free Will nor does being a PhD.d. grant you a free ride to heaven..... Faith is what matters...

Every child is born enlightened. By living in the material world we lose sight of that perfect knowledge. Fnords. The "holy books" and oral traditions ideally are there to help us remember. Of course they are written down or spoken by people living in the material plain so are filtered by the society and time at which they are transmitted. It is the quest of the seeker after spiritual perfection to get beyond the distortions. Fnord

God has already uploaded it into man.
God is waiting to see if man can "Remember" where it is and what the Holy Text says!

Self-realization, can at times be such a frightening term for the mind and the ego of a human.

I am not the most religious person in the world, in fact I think all organized religion is pretty bogus, but I do believe we have a certain "inherited knowledge" if you will, maybe even, as you say downloaded from God in an evolutionary way.
We are wired to at least try to get along, to cooperate at accomplishing things and to help one another.
The evidence of that is everywhere. Just look at the things human beings create together, pretty amazing when you think about it.
Did God put it in our "hard drives" or simple evolution over millennia. We just don't know for sure.

Perhaps He wants us to use our brain that He gave us. He will not force people to read The Word. You have free will. If he wanted a robot, he would have invented one, instead of man, that does and says everything He wants it to do. You are to make choices in your life. He gives you that ability.

Because he leaves to us the option... to decide and to be responsible of the consequesnces of our decision:

Please read my words carefully:
If you see footmark in the sand, you'll say that someone passed from here...
If you see a piece of dog sh*t on the ground, you'll say that a dog passed from here...
So what about the enormous universe, the sky, stars, planets, earth and all the beauty in it, doesn't it lead to that someone made it?!!!

Some people say that everything is created by itself after the big-bang... I won't ask you about what caused the big-bang, but I'll ask you a simple question:
If you take all the letters of the alphabet, multiples of them, and you threw them randomly on the floor. Do you expect (by a chance of one in infinity) to get a poem like shakespear's??!!

Can't you see how organized our universe is, the planets, the eco-system on earth, look even in your own body... Can you control your heart-beat? Can you control your breath while you're sleeping? Who stopped your eye-lashes from growing after reaching a certain length? Who told the baby turtles to move towards the sea and not to the earth after they come out of their eggs? Who taught the bird how to make nests?

My friend, think with your heart and brain. If you're still lost, think about the following:

Do you know how to play safe?
Non-believer's case:
If there's no God and you do all what you want in life, then nothing will happen to you after life. But if there was God and you were mistaken, then you'll blame yourself FOREVER...

Believer's case:
If there's God and I followed His commands in life, then I'll be in Heaven after life FOREVER. But if there was no God and we're mistaken, then nothing bad will happen to us after life...

Now you know how to play-safe, in case you're not convinced?

God already has for some people. And when the time is right He will do so again for others. May the wise understand.

Well for one, everyone is not his chosen people,so its not for everybody.Everyone doesnt even believe in him,He reveals to those he has chosen..And really the bottom of it is,he only deals with a particular people, the people he made his covenant with and their descendants. And he deals with those who want to obey and follow his ways..But if not,he cool on u,to put it plainly in todays terms. He does it the way he does so we can seek him,we have to seek him.We need him,he dont need us.

Because it is in us to sin or be sinners. If you never know the word or hear it .How can u be held at fault? after hearing it that is when u know your wrong. Make better choices and decisions. Also we normally make bad choices and decisions first.

The Old Testament was written by Rabbi's and other religious leaders. But Jesus taught we were to spread the Word ourselves. Go figure.
