Im terrible with gadgets, I've moved and I don't know how to set up my dvd it has a variety of plugs that have to go into the tv and into the dvd .

Does anyone have a simple method of how to make it work with all the wires and plugs. I've tryed sticking them in every whole but nothing is working.

Please make your answers very clear and simple as I'm not good with this sort of stuff.

Thank you in advance.

There are a lot of ways to get the same job of watching a movie done with a DVD player. There are so many different connections to give people options on sound and video quality. I tend to like to explain what each thing does, but I'll try to hold back :)

Know that all your connections may not be all right next each other on both the DVD player and TV. Sometimes all of the sound related options are grouped together and all of the video options are grouped together. You only need one of each.

The most basic way uses a DVD player, a composite (red/ white/ yellow) cord, and a TV.

1. First the DVD player:

Red/ White connections:
On the DVD player find the sound part. It may be labeled 'audio out'. Your White plug should plug into a White socket that may be labeled with an 'L' or 'Left'. The Red plug should plug into a Red socket that may be labeled with an 'R' or 'Right'.

(If there are two sets of red and white sockets chose one and make a note of it.)

(Ignore things labeled Coaxial, or part of a big group that has front/ rear/ center/ left/ right.)

Yellow connection:

On the DVD player find video part, it may be labeled 'Video Out'. Plug in the Yellow plug to the Yellow socket.

(If there are 2 video outs, use the same one you used for the sound.)

(Ignore anything that says S-Video or Component Video)

2. The TV:

Make sure that the connections on the TV say IN instead of OUT. Everything else is the same as with the DVD player as far as connections go.

(If you have red/ white/ yellow connections on the front of the TV those should pretty much always be IN and would be okay to use.)

3. Watching the Movie: Turn the TV on. Go ahead and turn your DVD player on, put a movie in and press the 'PLAY' arrow that points right. Don't worry if you don't see anything yet, we're on the way.

Not all TVs are the same, but what you need to do is find the 'special video channel' the DVD player is now plugged into. One way is on the television's remote control.

Sometimes there will be a button that says TV/Video or something similar that switches between regular TV and your Video signal. Sometimes there are multiple 'special video channels'. My TV has 1 in front, and 2 in the back. Usually these 'channels' have a blue screen if you don't have your DVD player on with a movie playing. I have to press the button to cycle through the channels I am not using until I find the one I want.

Another way is to change the channels all the way to the top or bottom. Many TVs will go from say 99 up to the special channels then to channel 1.

I hope this helped and I wish you the best of luck! :)

A lot depend on what type of TV and DVD you have.
