It definitely is not an accurate portrayal of God, but how can you not laugh when Steve Carrell is making all of those sounds whilst Jim Carrey is controlling him? Awesome.
Here's the main problem with it: the message of the movie, ultimately, is that 'being God is hard'. It's basically like, look Jim Carrey, you did a MUCH worse job than I did of being God, see how hard it is? I'm still doing a pretty darn good job of being God when you think of how hard it is!
This is about as unbiblical as one could get. The real reason that people don't get everything they want is not because God *can't* do that. God is not frantically trying to pull everything together and only partially succeeding. People get what they *need* and the Lord has the universe structured exactly as it needs to be. I would assume that this is what your dad finds objectionable, and I don't blame him.
Still, I liked the movie, myself. It definitely asked some big questions (even if the answers turned out wonky) and, again, have you SEEN the Steve Carrell scene? That is brilliant, my friend! :)

Did he tell you he didn't want you to watch it also?
Your father on earth and your heavenly Father both want the very best for you. When you have children you will be best able to discern what you would rather have them exposed to or not.
I have watched Bruce Almighty. I am a Christian. The whole idea and concept behind this movie is very anti-biblical. God would never and does never give over a portion of his power and authority to an unbelieving complainer. Remember the main characters are in a sexual--non married relationship. This goes against God's standards for sexual relationships--this should only be within marriage.
The movie is very carnal and although the ending has a positive spin it still falls far from a good influence on a young impressionable mind.
Ask God to forgive you for disobeying your father and ask God that you be patient when your parents tell you "no". It is for your best and you need to honor and respect them. Ask God for a deeper discernment about how movies, books and people influence you. Ask God for his wisdom about your movie viewing and other activities.
Ephesians 6:1-3, "Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right. Honour thy father and mother; (which is the first commandment with promise) That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth."

The movie never makes fun of God.
In fact the movie portrays some accurate Christian beliefs.
But if he doesn't want to watch the movie, so what?

I found it very amusing, and even bought the DVD. God has a sense of humor. I would imagine even He chuckled over this one. After all, Bruce ends up realizing that he can't fill God's shoes, so how's that offensive?

Personally, I did find it offensive. Because God and His power is very disrespectfully misrepresented.
I'm sorry most people just don't see that.
God is constantly being put equal on our human level. We treat Him the way we do each other, or worse.
Yet He is God. He is Holy.
And today's society has pretty much lost all respect for Him.

Joe, please don't say 'they'. My husband and I both believe in God and I read the Bible everyday. We both like Harry Potter movies and do not think it is harming children. Did you know that Laura Bush has read and liked the Harry Potter books. She is a Christian too. All Christian do not think alike.
As to the Asker's question.....yes and no. Parts of the movie were out of line such as blowing the girls dress up and showing her panties.
