Isn't this weird?! Christians believe God to be a spirit or an essence. They say that Jesus was God Incarnate; yet when they draw God, they depict him as an old man with a long white beard; someone completely different form the young brown-bearded Jesus!!!? How come?? If you want to Incarnate God, then draw him as Jesus; not as an old man. Otherwise this means you believe in more than one God Incarnate; thus more than one God!!!

You can see the old guy in many drawings like the Vatican, William Blake's paintings, other works of art and other Catholic and Protestant churches,...etc

But if Christians believe that Jesus is God Incarnate, then why don't they draw Jesus as Elohim or Jevoah??! Why do they draw an old man with a long white beard for ELOHIM and YAHWEH???!

djmantx, these drawings are in the Vatican, Blake's drawings, countless churches, etc.

Muhammad never said that Mary was part of the trinity, but the Koran warned those who worship her and declare her divine; like the Catholics, who number over a billion; not to mention those who died and those who've not yet come to this world.

Lance F, but don't you believe Jesus and God are one??! Or do you believe they're different??

djmantx, aren't you ashamed of yourself? Instead of answering my question, you're starting a new topic??! Besides, I believe you to be a liar! You claim to have NEVER seen depictions of God as an old man; yet one of your avatars includes the drawing of God as an old man! Infact, I believe it's Michaelangelo's drawing of God creating Adam; am I right??! Why lie?? Aren't you sure of your faith?? Don't try to hide it!

As for the Islamic saying about what Christians believe, well Islam denounces the trinity for saying that God, Jesus and Gabriel (the Holy Spirit) form God; thus making God three persons; thus in fact worshipping three Gods...and that's what actually Orthodox and Protestans believe. Catholics add Mary but not officially; as they declare her divine and worship her by making pagan idols of her. Have I clarified myself??

Don't worry, pal, beofre accepting Islam, I exhausted myself dearly in ordert to find the true faith; not just to follow that of my parents!

To those who wish to see Djmantx's avatar as God beng an old man, please see this link:

http://360.yahoo.com/profile-Crf3co81cau6X2tFCOPa

Now compare this avatar (which is part of Michaelangelo's painting of God creating Adam; that is in the Vatican) with djmantx's claim that He has NEVER seen any Christian painting of God as an old man with a white beard!

As I've said before, I believe that some people who are ardent followers of the Anti-Christ are living among us; you could know them from their lying and false claims.

djmantx, to prove you're nothing but a bigotric liar, I believe you've read and studied the Koran, right? Despite that, you give Best Answer to those who say that Muslims worship the moon god and you interpret ALLAH as the moon god, now where in the Koran is that??!

Everyone should know your methods of deception. BTW, you claim that you believed that very old man avatar of yours to be John the Baptist???!! Thus you do not know that the NT stated that John the Baptist was the same age as Jesus?!! And that he was killed before Jesus!!??!! More disgraceful is that you believe John the Baptist to have created Adam?!!!! Or was that old guy (who is depicted creating Adam) Moses or Noah or even Metuselah?!!!

Your methods of deception are very naieve. Only bigots will like to accept you. BTW, let's see how you'll stand in the Day of Judgement claiming that Muslims worshipped the moon god and that ALLAH is not Yahweh!!!!

I do not believe that Jesus was God incarnate.

I do not believe that God is old and has a white beard nor do I believe that Jesus is a brown haired, blue eyed, white man. Someone made that up because that is what THEY imagined them to look like.

Why do such little things bother you?

(I am a Christian)

Never seen a drawing of God who is an eternal spirit.
The old guys are usually Moses, Elijah or John the Baptist.

You are following the teachings of a dead man who believed that the trinity was Father, Mary and Jesus as three independant gods.

God is one God. Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
We are created in this image flesh, spirit and soul.

You are free to interpret your Qu'ran as you see as good
.
Clearly Muhamamd misinterpreted the trinity as more than one God which is not the way the trinity was ever defined.

You see it as good that Muslims misinterpret the trinity different than Christians but bad that I interpret the Qu'ran to define the trinty as including Mary which it obviously does.

5:116. And behold! Allah will say: "O Jesus the son of Mary! Didst thou say unto men, worship me and my mother as gods in derogation of Allah.?" He will say: "Glory to Thee! never could I say what I had no right (to say). Had I said such a thing, thou wouldst indeed have known it. Thou knowest what is in my heart, Thou I know not what is in Thine. For Thou knowest in full all that is hidden.

Muhamamd believed Christians worshiped three Gods including God (apparently the Father) Jesus and Mary.

JD as I said the old man in the depiction I assumed was John The Baptist in actuality the painitng might well be an artist interpretation of God (definitely not a Christian idea of God) who we believe to be an eternal spirit and God in the flesh is Jesus Christ and even then the portraits of him are interpretations of an artist idea of what Jesus might have looked like.

Okay JD I must admit I am unfamiliar with art it is Michelangelos depicition of God that apears on the Sisteen Chapel a masterpeice it does not mean that Christians or even Michelangelo believe this interpretation of a bearded man is the real God..It is merely a work of art.

JD calling a man a liar over a work of art that I never claimed to be an expert on is a little over the top Catholics do not believe this bearded man is God it is simply an artist interpretation of God, I am not Catholic and have no need to defend Catholics. I have never seen any painting of God in any Protistant Church I dont even recall a painting of Christ,
which by the way would also be an artist interpretation of what Christ looked like.

Now can we get to the issue of the trinity and where in the Qu'ran it is depicted as Father, Son and Holy Spirit?

ps lying is not a concept that Christ agreed with and I agree that it is how we will know the anti Christ.
Isnt al-Taqiyya an Islamic concept?
Did Allah not say he misleads who he chooses?

Wouldnt that get confusing? If, say Jesus and God were depicted exactly the same? It is just for artistic representation to help people recognize what is going on in a work.

You haven't read the stories of Jesus' tripping over his long white beard when he was only 12 years old? You obviously have not read the entire Bible.

Post Script:

God is not human. He is a spirit. So any attempts to draw what he might look like is in vain.

Im a Christian and i don't depict God as an old man with a beard,it's a strange one alright, certainly not Biblical.
If i was to depict Him He would be as an inferno,a consuming fire just as He appeared to Moses on the top of mount sinai.

Let's not confuse artistic expression as reflecting the real thing. Obviously no one know what God looks like and it's pretty hard to draw/paint "spirit" or "consciousness"

We didn't depict God. The artists used their imagination since nobody knows what He looks like.

Those drawings come from man's imagination. They are in no way representative of what God actually looks like.

What if I incarnate Him as the space between the atoms would that change who and what He is?
Better to leave God's image to Him and look at your own sin nature. Is it under control or are you a wild child in disobedience to His word?

I picture God is a brilliant beam of light. That doesn't necessarily mean it's true, but it works for me.
