you know, the bible classes and religious instruction for 6 year olds. What if you were not coached since childhood, would you still believe in god and angels all around you and such?

My mom WAS a Christian but my Dad WAS an atheist and I was drummed both ways. I was an Atheist for the first 19 years of my life. I was like the folks on here who thought people who believed that stuff were weak and stupid (except I just didn't want a lot to do with them, had no use for them so to speak, I wouldn't have spent hours on a R&S forum houndin religious folks. What's up with that? This is the last place I would have wanted to be.) I am a believer in Jesus Christ only because the Holy Spirit of God got ahold of me at the age of 19 and drew me to the Word of God. He opened my eyes and I'll never be the same. Thank God. God bless!!

I have been a Christian for a little over three years. I am 41 now, I did not go to church as a kid nor did I read the Bible. What happened you will more than likely not even believe.

I was confronted by a man, that asked me " Do you consider your self a good person? I though, compared to some of my friends,I am, then said, "Yes". He proceeded to ask me questions, like have I ever lied? have I ever stolen, have I ever looked at a woman in lust? Have I ever Hated? Yes, Yes, Yes, Yes. I then realized, Yes I am guilty. "Since you admit your guilt would you go to Heaven or Hell" He asked. Hell, I reluctantly answered. I still had a hard time admiting that God, whom I previously did not believe in, existed, yet here He was speaking to my soul through another human being. That will be also the hardest part for you to believe, but it is true, God spoke to my subconsciense inner self and revealed Himself to me, and I was guilty before Him, The man did not stop there, he went on saying that God did not want me to go to Hell, He provided a way so that I would not have to, He asked me if I wanted to know, Yes, I did. who wouldn't?

That Day was like no other day. I repented of my sins, with Godly sorrow, not because I was caught, but because I had sinned against God. That day, I first believed and received the Holy Spirit as a testimony of Gods promises and truth, That day is the day, my kids, wife and friends, will say is the day that I changed for the better. That day is the day that I humbled myself and prayed.

I went to church as a child and rejected it as a teenager (became agnostic) Then in my early twenties God slapped me upside the head and said, "time to come back" Thats when I honestly accepted Christ, when I was personally convicted by the Holy Spirit. There is no other way. No amount of Bible reading or "coaching" as you put it will amount to a hill of beans if the Holy Spirit doesn't reach down into your very soul and show you the truth of God.

I believed in God when I was little because yes it was drummed into my head. Then I learned about evolution and didn't believe in God anymore. Then I learned about the big bang, which has caused me to believe in an intelligent designer once again.

I was born into a Christian family. So they made me believe in God and tought me to follow all the teachings and stuff.

But, I'm now old enough to make my own decisions... Religion disturbs me. Way to much. I don't follow religion because of this, but I do still believe in God though.

In conclusion, I guess I belive in God but without belonging to no certain group of religion.

most, because it was drummed in since childhood, but with rational thought one can overcome this brainwashing.

I am proud to say I am a recovered christian

if anything the ones that really read the bible ...all the way through..not just the happy parts would be disgusted if they have any moral character at all I don't see that it would put anyone on the path of christianity.

Yes I would. I have seriously and critically analyzed my faith, my raising, and the Bible. I have read the entire Bible more than once and most of the Bible I have read very carefully and analytically.

I continue in my faith with an open and rational mindset.

Post Script:
This should be a drinking game question. LoL

My parents were Catholics I am a Protestant. So I suppose I did get exposed to Christianity, but mostly I'm still here because I read the Bible.

Hope that helps.

Plenty of people convert to a religion that they did not grow up in.

Having said that... The VAST majority of people belong to a particular religion simply because it's how they were indoctrinated from birth. The single biggest factor that determines religious belief is geography.

I can't say whether or not I would believe in God if my parents hadn't taught me, but when I look at the world and the complexity of everything from a single cell to the complexities of humanity, to me, it screams designer. I choose to believe that the designer is God.
