Bismillahi Rahmani Rahim - In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful

Hello. Yes, the prohibition of alcohol is absolute. We are not to drink it, sell it, manufacture it, or even sell the raw product (grapes, wheat, hops) to someone we know will be making alcohol. The prohibition is in the Holy Qur'an. The wisdom of Allah is that He made this a gradual prohibition. In the early days of Islam, when people had not given up their bad habits from the days of ignorance, they were told not to come to the prayer intoxicated, but to wait until they were sober. Later, as the believers were more firm in their faith and practice, the complete ban on alcohol was instituted. The Muslims were so keen to follow the guidance of Allah that they overturned their cups and smashed the containers. Wine ran into the streets that day.

Muslims are promised a drink in Paradise that is incomprehensibly better than any alcoholic beverage in this world. The drink of Paradise will taste better and will not make anyone feel intoxicated or do anything foolish. Thus we are simply abstaining from one type of pleasurable drink because we know we are promised something much better in the world to come.

There are no different branches of Islam; Islam is one religion and those who try to divide it are committing a sin. All Muslims must abstain from alcohol and any Muslim who does not believe this has a lack of knowledge and should be gently but firmly counseled and corrected. And Allah knows best.

May Allah guide you to that which is best in this world and the next. Ameen.

Fi Aman Allah,

Nancy Umm Abdel Hamid

Not only Islam, also in Holy Bible it states the very same thing don't drink the poison of the devil, for it was made as a desire for you to stay away from. Just like witch craft but they did it anyways. Isn't that interesting how the big beer trucks that drive down the highways always look so good and are so well kept. While the Bible Mission bus is riddled with problems it barely can make it from one place to the next. How nice where we concentrate the efforts.

Depends on the mosque. For Eid there were a ton who wore it and ripped it off the second they were done praying. I don't have a problem personally with the fact that they don't wear it but it looked horrible the way they acted afterwards...and on EID we all celebrate at the mosque together. Women would wear a big Abaya and then rip it off to basically prance around and show off their stuff after the prayer. This is not just my judgment, it is what many of them will admit too. So many people show up...and ...well...they think it's a possible way to meet somebody for marriage. A couple of times on EID I saw women not wear hijab at all and depending on the mosque community they could very well be harassed. PPL can claim to be anything they want. Many Muslim women I have known have not worn hijab at one time or another. When I first converted I didn't wear it all the time. I'm a convert so the way ppl react is kinda weird. If I say salaam they are suspicious...but if an Arab did this and didn't wear hijab they are usually quite warm with her. Yes, hijab is in Christianity as well -- just look at the nuns, the Amish etc...Jews too... "Anything is possible"as they say but I think you are just trying to look for a way out of a practice of Islam. I could be wrong though. Best of luck to you. :)

I never heard of any Islamic sect that allows alcoholic drinks

This is clear in the Quran. It was forbidden on stages because the Arabs at that time were very fond of wine.
you can notice from the verses :

First Stage:
"O you who believe! Approach not As¬Salât (the prayer) when you are in a drunken state until you know (the meaning) of what you utter..."[4:43]

Second Stage:
"They ask thee concerning wine and gambling. Say: "In them is great sin, and some profit for men; but the sin is greater than the profit."[2:219]

Final banning:
"O ye who believe! Strong drink and games of chance and idols and divining arrows are only an infamy of Satan's handiwork. Leave it aside in order that ye may succeed. (90) Satan seeketh only to cast among you enmity and hatred by means of strong drink and games of chance, and to turn you from remembrance of Allah and from (His) worship. Will ye then have done? (91) "[5:90-91]

There is a prohibition in the holy writings on 'strong drink' (depending on your English Translation!) which meant distilled spirits, not lightly fermented 'beer' etc, which was at that period of history, one of the few guaranteed disease free water sources.

Some Muslims consume alcohol in moderation.
