don't you feel we stopped listening. WE just ask and wait for the answer which is already in our minds, never try to take a moment to even think that other peoples opinions' could be true!!????

Great question! You have nailed the weakness here on R & S. It is less of honest searching and learning and more of a big joke with one closed minded person trying to belittle other closed minded people.

In theory, this could be a wonderful place of sharing and learning and idea exchange. Alas, it is more like junior high name calling.

If it's a question where I want help with something, of course I listen. If it is just a view or other persons opinions, that is different. People are different, if someone was to change my mind on something they need to explain why they thought that way and what made them lead up to their conclusion. If then it is plausible, sure I would understand it from their perspective.

If you don't listen, you can't learn. It is too bad when you wait for your turn to talk and jump in without thinking about what the other person just said. Then you have to stop and ask what they said later on and sound foolish. That is my problem. It's just that I want to have a chance to talk! sheesh!

Sometimes we don't listen because we are waiting for a more concrete answer by finding it out for ourselves rather than from other's experiences. We ask because we want a feeling of assurance, it's like a survey about something but in reality nothing beats experiencing it yourself.

Yes and no. Some people are open to listening and some people aren't. It takes a highly evolved, very wise and mature individual to consider other people's opinions. That's are goal isn't it? To rise above ourselves, stop being selfish and respect other people's opinions.

It seems to me that people often respond not to what the other persons says but to their own feelings. I had a conversation with a person who barely knew me and it went like this:
ME: "Sometimes I wonder if cement and pavement are a form of polution."
HER: "Oh my! Are you one of those people?! God has blessed this country! We are never going to run out of resources! It may seem like saving the last spotted owl is important but other species have gone extinct and we don't miss them....but I know you have your opinion."

She didn't even ask what it was! It seems to more and more common that people have conversations with their feelings and not people. No one is 100% right. How can we learn from one another if our constantly trying to validate ourselves?

Good for you! What insight! An open mind is so necessary in life. It is wise to listen. The Bible says, 'Be quick to listen and slow to speak." Keep up the good work, you're on the right path to wisdom.

Sometimes, this is the case.
If I ask a simple question and then I get Scripture or the like which I didn't ask for, I usually just ignore anything else this person offers as an answer because I figure, they just do not know.

I don't believe I don't listen to others. I think the closest I come is I understand what is being said, I just don't agree. Often ppl mistake that for not being listened to as their argument must be enough to convince me they are right.
Peace

Yes but sometimes they are not only true. Personally I will listen to someone's logic but if it sounds stupid or untrue then I stop listening
