Humankind was made in God's image, male and female. Although we can not say that God, or any other spirit being, are male or female in the sense that humans and animals are, throughout the Bible God refers to himself in masculine terms. He uses the figure of a “husband” to illustrate his relationship to Israel. (Isaiah 54:5; Jeremiah 31:32, “RSV”), and alludes to a similar relationship with his heavenly organization, or “woman,” the “Jerusalem above.” (Genesis 3:15; Revelation 12:1-6; Galatians 4:26) Christ is also figuratively referred to as a “bridegroom,” a “husband,” and as having a “wife.” (John 3:28, 29; 2Corinthians 11:2; Ephesians 5:22-33; Revelation 21:9) Christ taught us to pray to our "Father".

There are plenty of religions out there that believe in a female diety; Wisdom as portrayed in the Bible is always female and obviously Wisdom is an attribute of God. I think it is a mute point. God is genderless because God is not physical. God is pure consciousness from which all things in the universe flow. Sometimes when I pray I say God the Father, but that is an ingrained habit. I prefer to call God by name (El Shaddai, Adonai, etc...) because by using a specific name of God I am appealing to a specific characteristic of God.
I think other religions think of God as female because on a physical level, "life" comes from the female of all species, so the God of the universe who gave "life" to everything must be female. But He created them BOTH in His likeness, giving males certain of His characteristics and females other characteristics.

Because thinking God is an old man sitting on a cloud is ridiculous.
Only someone who's never read hebrew can say that. When it says "God created man in his image", you should read: "God created -mankind- to -Its- -likeness-"
Meaning, God created humans with the hability for Good, despite everything. It has nothing to do with a physical form.
So, you're free to picture God as a man, a woman, a child or a wookie...
As for adoration of "The Goddess", it's a very old image from the Celtic Era, where women were viewed as the highest creatures because of their hability to give life, instead of men, who are viewed by middeterranean monotheistic religions (wow, lots of word) as the highest creatures because of their physical superiority.

Well once you start thinking about it, just why would God have a Johnson? It isn't like there are goddesses running about according to Judeo-Christian myths or people for that matter, so it isn't like he is Zeus going for a bit.
So a lot of people dismiss the idea of that passage being the literal truth, they'd prefer some sort of overwhelming, divine being to arguing about whether God ever needs to take a dump from that anus of his.
Once you get away from he physical body idea, most interpret "image" as being intelligence or consciousness. If that's the nature of God, well then why male, female, neither, or both?

Who says that God isn't a woman? MEN DO! And the Bible was written and edited by men so that women are put in a subservient position. Men also pointed the finger at women who were strong and in positions of power, cried witch and killed them! Read this history books and question things! Knowledge is power and man has tried to keep it from us!

God doesn't have a gender. He made Adam a "man" so him and Eve could have babies. God doesnt have a gender because He doesn't need to reproduce. simple as that. the deep voice that movies always give Him just shows His power.

Well He did create us male and female. So why can't God have a female aspect? And why did He create a female? He could have created 2 men to hang out together and had us reproduce asexually. So I think that there being a female aspect only makes sense,

I think a lot of people call God a woman just to get a reaction. And many pagan religions have female gods.

Well, I am not sure who you have been talking to but for the vast majority, people refer to God as male. God is attributed to God mostly because he is viewed as a divine, perfect, heavenly, spiritual, Father.
