Strands of hair can fall in the foods. Isn't this unsanitary?

They're not cooking for the public; they're cooking for the camera.

There are several cooking shows I can not watch because of the females cooking with long hair flowing over the food. It is similar to when you watch these shows and they do not clean their knives, cutting boards or wash their hands.

It is horrible. It makes me so grossed out I can't even watch those shows. They very rarely, if ever, give common sense recommendations about food handling/preparation guidelines to insure those cooking don't get food poisoning.

I'm too practical and pragmatic to watch a cooking show that is SO unrealistic that they don't even mention they should be washing their hands, etc.

Believe me, I won't even eat in a restaraunt that doesn't require it's employees to tie their hair back. It used to be that all restaraunt workers were required to wear hair nets and I haven't seen one in years. The standards have lowered and it is just plain gross and unsanitary.

Bleech.

Because they're on television, and people on TV always look good. In general these shows are focused to home cooks, who probably don't tie their hair back either.

You thing thats bad. We have a cook called Huey who enjoys handling his food a bit too much. Huey would dunk his hands through heaps. Don't get me wrong , he was a nice fellow .

Mmmmm handled meatballs anyone?

That's nothing.

I saw Julia Childs drop an entire meatloaf on the floor once, then pick it up, put it back in the pan and in the oven.

Fancy that.

Because they don't really cook the food, they only show it AFTER the fact.

Cause its a show.
They have to look pretty, and the food they prepare probably goes untouched.

I guess because it is TV. Yet I have noticed they do not use plastic gloves either, and sometimes people do eat the food. I agree it is unsanitary. TV is TV, but it would seem sanitation would be the same there.

LOL! True! I had never thought about this but, in a public arena they would need to wear a hair net as well.
