Because they were 'unclean' while they were menstruating. (Churches do tend to be run by misogynist wankers.)

Short answer: back in the day a woman was considered "dirty" when she was menstruating. You could not receive communion while you were "dirty" and "impure" and such. Interesting, isn't it? I know this is silly, but try checking out www.bricktestament.com. It's a lego-illustrated guide to some of the bible. It's really amusing to watch, but it has a couple little things about women and menstruation and marriage and all that. :)

You should read the five books of Moses. i think the business of women being unclean was in Leviticus, but I am not sure now. I'll look up the info and post momentarily, if someone else doesn't.

Anyhow, that is one of the many reasons why I choose to try to follow Jesus' teachings, instead of the teachings of other biblical figures.

Be well.

Islam also doesn't allow women in mosque during menstruating period. Because mosque is a holy place of worship and women during periods are unclean. Except these days, all other days women are wellcome in mosques.
This command of Allah is written in Quran.

If you are thinking discrimiation, it is not.

Scotgirl, I wish all Christians would *at least* act like Jesus, but they don't. They're hating gays, hating other religions, hating atheists, killing in wars, supporting the death penalty IGNORANTLY.

So this person wants to point out a historical unfairness, uncited yes, but still true and still actually in the Bible, and I think it would do you and the rest of the world some good to acknowledge it and condemn it. No?

Please cite a source so we can research it.

But if you're going down the path of Christians being anti-women, don't bother.

Jesus himself modeled radically inclusive treatment of women.
