I'm a Dale Jr. fan but I don't see NASCAR as being all about Jr.

Its really not just about Jr. He has been voted the most liked person in Nascar for several years. The other is who has the sponsor with the most money to spend on advertising. They use these drivers to get you to buy beer and jeans. Its really pretty simple. Chevrolet, Ford, Dodge and now Toyota all run ads for the sport and include drivers from their stock as well. The most liked wins. In Dale's situation, he also owns a dealership. Home Depot is also constantly running ad's with Tony Stewart. Next year, when Tony takes on Toyota as a sponsor, they will be advertising him left and right. Jr just has a lot going for him, not just in racing, but sponsors and also the son of one of the most well liked drivers in the history of the sport.

Truthful answer from a 40 year Nascar fan--Here goes, Its the media responding to the squeakiest wheels. That wheel is The Very vocal Jr. Nation of fans. The Tv Networks and especially the Tv Announcers from all the networks are on this bandwagon. They are supposed to be unbiased and report the race events but its Jr. before the race --all through the race no matter his position or if in chase or not--Then its post race interviews afterwards Jr. is even interviewed if he finishes out side the top ten. The TV announcers continually show their favoritism by their actions. This just feeds the frenzy . This sound familiar? Oh look race fans Jr. is charging to the front he just passed Mark Martin for 19th?--Dont look now fans but Jr. after his bad luck on pit row is moving to the front he just passed Dave Reuittiman for 23rd? Do they ever do this for any other driver moving into 19th or 23rd Position--NO! He is voted as most popular driver for 5 or 6 years now----But I can say this truthfully whether people want to admit it or not--When Bill Elliot was most popular for 11 straight years and Richard Petty was for many years they did not get this kind of attention or favoritism. They were talked about plenty BUT Most of it was for their wins-Champioships and accomplishments not for their name. It is really an injustice to all non Jr. fans. Simple Math Johnsonfans+ Stewart fans + Gordon fans-Burton-Harvick-Kennseth-The Bush Brothers-Martin-Newman and the rest of the drivers fans far account for more fans than the Jr. Nation. I do not dislike Jr. but I do get tired of hearing about him. Based on his accomplishments he is a decent driver not a great driver.

No kidding! nascar.com is totally devoted to selling Jr.'s new gear. Every banner ad on their site is for Jr.'s new sponsors, number, and crap. The guy hasn't won a race in over a year, and hasn't made the Chase two out of the last three years, and yet he's bigger than anyone else on the circuit.

Every sport has their super stars that the sport promotes. Jr just happens to be NASCARs super star. He is not the best driver but he is the MOST popluar. NASCAR is NOT stupid. They know that Jr brings in the $$$ simply because of his popularity. NASCAR does a good job of trying to promote other drivers (Kasey Kahne in point) but until one of those drivers over take Jr in popularity, don't expect NASCAR to ignore Jr.

Well, now that jr. and Jeff Gordon both drive for the same soda company maybe they can go on a date together we won't have to talk about them all the time.

I agree with Icyelene R.When Dale Sr passed people started talking about Jr even more .
And if its not Jr its HMS we hear about .And as we all know Jr will be a HMS driver next year so those combined they will be even worse in talking about Jr & HMS.

sports fans always search for a hero figure, which usually ends up being the 'bad guy'. Dale jr. inherited this title from his dad (the intimidator - as if), so the fans flock to him to make their lives more interesting. This also makes for some great arguments.

Thank you. I guess the press forgets that there's 42 other drivers out there. Week in and week out. And more on qualifying day. He's still the one the press runs to, even though he didn't even make the chase.
