I have two girls, 5 and 3 1/2. I dress them simple. Nothing fancy as long as it's appropriate for the weather and nothing outrageous. Simple like shorts and t-shirt, skirt (with shorts underneath) and a blouse, sometimes sandals or tennis shoes to go with their outfit. I'm not too crazy about name brands. I don't want them to value fashion to fit in certain cliche.

I buy them the simple stuff... they choose what they want to wear (as long as it's not terribly clashy or weather inappropriate). I must admit a slight twinge of envy when I see the other kids in their cute fashonista outfits... but it simply is *not* realistic to spend so much on an outfit when a single growth spurt could conceivably take them out of it in a month!

I have a very short list of the necessary things and their duplicates. I tend to get trousers that are sturdier and long lasting, which cost a bit more money, but I make up for it by stocking up on underwear, undershirts, socks and Ts at Target and Old Navy when I'm in the US.

What I don't compromise on is outerwear. I make sure the kids have good jackets, coats, boots and shoes (they walk to school every day, no matter the weather).

Don't have kids but my daughters will be wearing the hijab and Abaya when they turn 2. Actually when they are born so my Ali my pushy nephew doesn't see her and start hitting all my other nephews. My sons will probably wear the thobe and that other clothing that I don't happen to know right now when they turn 1. We're Muslims so they'll be dressed in traditional Muslim clothing.

My niece (2 1/2) wears pretty simple outfits also.(shorts, t shirts, capris) She wears mostly Gymboree clothing though. It is not for the name brand aspect but for the fact that is what 'fits' her the best. I dont expect her to think that she needs the name brands, as she will wear anything. The only thing with her is that she has to wear shoes that match her outfit.(Which is my fault for buying her all the shoes, I know.)

My cousin who is 4, dresses pretty simple, but very pretty. She has a variety of clothing. Pretty skirt, T-shirt, jeans, t-shirt. but when she goes out in the backyard or something she has to put her "outdoor clothes on" pretty simple stuff. an old t- and a pair of jeans.
for church she always wears dresses after church, she changes into her outdoor clothes and yeah

You're wise - and it will save you a fortune when they are teenagers and save them money and uneccessary worry too if they carry such a sensible attitude over clothing (and other things) into adulthood/their own parenthood!

I put my son in whatever he can move in. I like to see him be comfortable. And of course our kids will look cute no matter what they are wearing!!

My daughter's wardrobe was all over the place.

I bought what I saw that I liked and wanted for her.

If it was in Wal-Mart.... I bought it.

If it was in Lord & Taylor...I bought it.
