no1home2day: from what I've seen of your answers, there's no1homeanyday, however I digress; This is a serious question. My opinion of it, as a stupid story made up by drunk nomads, has nothing to do with it.

What amazes me is adults actually believe those ludicrous fairy tales. That is truly sad.

Dig down real deep and find a few active brain cells....then think! That's what Atheists are supposed to do best, right?

Do you know anything about theology? Have you studied anything, including the Bible? or are you a lazy person without an original thought in your head...simply repeating what other Atheists have said or asked before. I have read this question about a hundred times!

You are a embarrassment to Atheists and you need to ask a question that is original before I can take you seriously.

Study, get educated, grow older and I'm sure you will look back on your Q and A on here and CRINGE!

And to answer your lame question...Baalam argued with the donkey because that is how the story goes. Try not to "strip a gear" when you study theology (if you have the mentality to study it). I'm sorry to be so blunt...I wish you only the best...

Enlightenment is a great thing...get some today!

Baalam was THE prophet of his people. He was, to the gentiles, what Moses was to the Jews...which was why he'd been asked to curse the Jewish people in the first place. His curse, had he managed to deliver it, would have really meant something! At any rate, he was supposed to have been used to supernatural goings-on, which would explain his lack of surprise over the donkey's sudden verbal skills.

Baalam was a pagan prophet, though--and in part the story is meant to show that even pagan enemies had to bless the Jewish people as they passed through.

This story actually has a lot of underlying symbolism. The donkey's speech symbolized the idea that all human functions, including speech, are gifts from G-d and have to be used in the ways He wants us to use them. It ties directly to Baalam's speech--he wanted to curse the Jews, but was unable to do so because G-d wouldn't let him. G-d had given Baalam the gift of prophecy specifically so that he would someday bless Israel. G-d could both causea donkey to talk...AND He could silence Baalam's curse.

The donkey, btw, is midrashically supposed to be the same donkey that Avraham and Isaac took on that fateful journey to the mountain...and the same one that the messiah will someday ride on.

The passage: "How beautiful are your tents..." is one of the first things a Jew says in the morning.

There's a LOT more in the passage, but it gets involved, and I don't understand it all. What's sad is that, after Baalam finally--and reluctantly--delivered his blessings, the Jews went on to almost immediately bring ruin upon themselves with Midianite women...

Anyway--I'm not trying to convince you!--just letting you know the little I know about this passage.

Come on!

First you say this is a serious question, to which I was about to say I've had the same question, THEN you turn around and say that it sounds like a "badly done fairytale"

You self-contradiction tells me more about you then you really want me to know.

I mean, first off, only scoffers and mockers say things like that.

Second, it sounds rather hypocritical to say it's a serious question in one sentence, then to make a mockery of the subject of the question in the next.

Come on and ask a serious question, and you might get serious answers. Mock, and all you will get is criticism on the one hand, and pats on the back on the other, but no real actual answers to the question itself.

I was once told that there are no dumb questions, but if I ever came across one, it would tell me a lot about the asker.

actual the story says that God opened the mouth of the donkey. consistent with probability it grew to become into the voice of the angel who stood interior the way of Balaam. He ought to no longer see the angel however the donkey ought to and moved three times, ultimately mendacity down. Then Balaam observed the angel. Balaam grew to become into doing some thing that made God mad and this grew to become into what befell to him. Balaam grew to become into assisting king Balak against the Isralites who were led out of Egypt. So the donkey grew to become into made to communicate, i'm specific that it grew to become right into a mockery to Balaam. Balaam asked forgiveness and mercy after that. notwithstanding he theory up a clean plot against God's human beings so grew to become into killed presently after.

Because he was a 'prophet' who was used to receiving messages from God. So he was not shocked at seeing angels, nor from seeing talking donkeys. He understood that all were just different forms of communication from God. Its like receiving a message via phone or via sms. Different mediums, same messenger.

being the story was written in 3rd person, I think the writer said what they wanted
