My focus is teenage stress. I am writing a news article on the pressures on teenagers and the amount of stress they carry on their shoulders. (Specifically focusing on the stressful responsiblities of school and extracurricular activities) I'm having a bit of a writer's block and wondering if any of you answerers had some ideas, comments, concerns, or ways to relieve stress. Thanks for everything! Have an amazing rest of the evening!

I mainly think that most teenagers stress can be caused from over-reaction. Unless it's from something serious, like lack of a parent, deceased family member or close friend, putting too much school work on their shoulders (like taking too many classes), sports can cause stress in teenagers, as well as fitting in can cause stress.

There's a lot of things that can cause stress in a persons life, no matter what the age is.

A way to relieve it, is to find something you like to do that makes you completely relaxed and calm. Something that makes you happy.

For me, it was always playing guitar or skateboarding. It was something fun for me to do and I didn't have any stress about it because it was just something I did for fun.

It's basically about learning how to control the amount of things you take on. Having at least one part of your day just being about you and something you like to do. -shrugs-

The most stress I think I ever have in the day is peers- friends and stuff like that (Besides the stress of growing up, but everyone has that, right?)... social situations are probably the most stressful thing you can encounter in a day. But really, like the people who've already put answers out, we probably make-up more stress than we actually have- really, what does your average Junior High/9th grade kid have to worry about besides what they're going to do for a snack or something when they get home?

Extracuricular activies... I'd say don't overload yourself, and if you find yourself really overworked at the end of the day, think about which ones you really like and which ones you're in just because you feel 'pressured' to be in. My friend had that problem and the moment she quit one she felt a whole, whole lot better.

When I wanna get un-'stressed' I like to sit there and write, sort of like a journal I use when I'm feeling overloaded by something I'm getting worked up about...

*When I was a teenager there was a lot of stress to be a great student, going to college wasn't an option it was expected. The teachers and my parents put a lot of stress on me.

*One of my friends parents required him to pay rent when he turned 18 before he finished high school, so he worked 40 hrs plus went to school. I know that was a huge stress on him.

*The need to feel accepted and loved by someone when you have overly critical, verbally abusive parents. My friends were my family and the few that I had still are.

*Getting money for school was huge stress for me and classmates

*Being pressured to decide what your going to do with your life happens younger and younger with specialized magnet schools.

*The big one on most teenage minds SEX. Have it, don't have it? At least 1/2 of my classmates were no longer virgins by 14 (1994). I'm sure the pressures haven't changed much and most people never would have believed that pressure occurs that young but it did where I was from.

Stress relief:
*excersize-released endorphines that help eliminate stress.
*art-creating something
*reading to escape to somewhere else for a little while
*breathing excersizes
*talking to friends about stresses
*journaling, or writing stories or poetry ( my biggest release at that age)

Hey. Just thought I would help a bit.
Most teenagers make up stress. I mean, yes they are stressed, but they make up things, or over exagerate stress to get sympathy.
Also, the absolute most stressful thing a teenager can have on their mind, is actually family in the hospital. Yeah, homework and being accepted are big. But we see our family members every day. They are our form of repition, our normalicy. And the thought of losing them... a teenager can complain about their parents all they want. But deep down, they love them to death and couldn't function without them.
Hope I was of some sort of help.

It seems to me that teens feel things more drastically. I think it is hormones. Because, later, it isn't quite as stressful. Exercise, eating well, getting ehough sleep, playing, having people to talk to, talking with your parents. All of these things can make a huge difference.
