The reason I ask is because on this question about the legal age of consent, a number of Christians said that the legal age should be when they are married. Do some people really think we should outlaw premarital sex, and if so...what should the punishment be?

I'm guessing that there would be many men of the cloth who would offer to deliver 'punishment'. In their compassion I'm sure they would say that they wanted to spare the sinner any further embarrassment - and would offer to handle the matter privately. After an extended counseling session the perp, I mean 'deliverer of justice' would release the offender from there private counseling chamber with the admonition to never speak of it again.

There is a lot of young people on this web site and they see the TV programs that show immoral sexual relations like it is what the public does. We have way to many teenage girls getting pregnant and the teacher tells the girls it is okay to say No. I was suprised they needed to know that. Who told them it wasn't? No little girl of 14 or 15 needs to have a baby without the benefit of a husband. yet, sad to say it is all to often. How can they care for a child when they are still children themselves? I really appreciate these answers to this question. It lets the kids know we as adults do not feel sex without marriage for young teens is not acceptable.
It is a sin and it carries high consequences.

if they really are christians who want premarital sex to be made illegal, then those christians are stupid and wrong, because it would be awful and wrong for it to be illegal between guys and women outside of marriage. it should be legal between guys and women not only inside of marriage, but also outside of marriage as well.

not only should premarital sex be legal and stay that way, but it should be encouraged, if anything. premarital sex between guys and women isn't bad at all. if anything, it's actually good, moral, and right. it's wrong for guys to miss out on foreplay and sex with women, especially by their thirties and on up. a lack of foreplay and sex between guys and women is bad and wrong, but many christians are too ignorant to realize that. if anything, there needs to be more, not less, foreplay and sex between guys and women(both inside AND outside of marriage). a lack of foreplay and sex between guys and women can only cause more harm than good.

and why are you talking about premarital sex, and then talking about underage kids? some people never marry, even by the time they're in their 30s. so are you trying to say that it's not about premarital sex afterall, but rather instead only about kids under 18 years old? regardless if someone can pay bills or not, premarital sex between guys and women should be deemed ok and justifiable, especially by the time they're as old as anywhere between 28 to 35 years old. not everyone gets married in their mid-20s. some stay single in their whole life, even by the time they're in their 30s, and to be a virgin past the age of 30, that's the time when you should REALLY start doing it as soon as you can or at least before you turn 31 whether you're married or not, because if you're 31 and still a virgin, that starts to become a bad thing, again, whether you're married or not.

I can answer for RTD2 Only women get pregnant.
Our sex education class says it is okay to say no. that sex is for adults that to many girls get pregant while still in high school. She said, "when two people lay down only one of you can get pregnant"
That changes your life forever. You have this other person to take care of when you are still unable to take care of yourself.
Using condoms doesn't always work and you can still get AIDS because the virus is very small. We had some girls get pregnant using condoms.
My dad said when your are 18, and have your high school diploma and are going to college I probably will not have much control over your actions. But if any boy touches you before then he better really like it because for that he will go to jail for a very long time, if he lives.
I think he means that is not an option. Then he says it is okay to say no. It is not necessary to act like a animal.
Sex is for married people to have a family together and love each other forever.

Just because men can't get pregnant doesn't make it okay to have sex without marriage. It is still a sin.
I think it forces someone to grow up to soon and experience things they shouldn't before they are married.
Besides beging morally wrong it is taking a chance on getting a disease or getting someone pregnant and ruining their life. We were raised in the bible belt but we were told you get a girl pregnant you are married wether you want to be or not. It is called a shotgun wedding but a wedding none the less. Maybe that is okay for folks in California but that doesn't work for people in the south west. We believe that is a sin.

I think that if any man touches a women under 18 he should go to jail for a long time.
I have to say that I think women who wait until they are married earn the respect of a man much more than some woman who jumps in bed with every man they see.
I do beleive that sex without marriage is just morally wrong.

See lindsey the question said "legal consent" but the add detail said "I wonder what everyone considers the "right time" to start consenting to sex."

I think a lot of people were reply to the add details saying they should wait until they're married...not that it should be law...

I do believe that premartial sex is immoral and a sin.
We have to many teenage girls getting pregnant and to much venereal disease and we have reaped a crop of promiscuous people who keep going for more thrills and regular sex just doesn't appeal to them anymore and they have sex with other men and become degrading.
It is a lust like an animal thing, with no love or committment.
Marriage was a way to unite forever two people who truly loved each other, it was a bond of love. That is what makes us different from the animals. We do have self control and we do have morals. We are not suppose to have sex with every women we see. But to get married and have a wife and be faithful to each other. What is so horrible about that?
But make a law? NO! That should be something we decide from the heart to do it cannot be legislated.
You will always have people who act like animals and you cannot change that with laws.

It would be interesting to see them trying to enforce this one. Lots of things are illegal yet occur on a daily basis, underage drinking, drug use, prostitution, priests raping children.

Oops did I say that out loud?
