Claiming to KNOW anything about what is beyond death is a LIE. Nobody who has actually died has ever come back, period. If you make the claim, you are responsible for providing proof, and there is none.

Your question - as usual - sparked several trains of thought for me, so I'll have to pick one and ride it.

I'm assuming you could care less if someone believes they're going to a fiery inferno or an ethereal paradise when they die. The problem comes when they USE that belief to enforce beliefs or behaviors on others. Right? Someone once wrote, "No resistance to power is possible while the sanctioning lies which justify that power are accepted as valid. While that first and chief line of defense is unbroken there can be no revolt. Before any injustice, any abuse or oppression can be resisted, the lie upon which it is founded must be unmasked, must be clearly recognized for what it is."

That's what makes the doctrine of hell - whether there's any truth to it or not - so insidious as a tool to prop up religious power structures. It's almost impossible to "unmask" the lie, so it can be used as a tool of fear. One more reason why religion and power should never mix.

Peace to you.

There is no proof of any of the great events from ancient times. There is less recorded about Julius Caesar that there is of Jesus Christ yet you don't doubt him.. Is it only because Jesus was witnessed working miracles that you doubt him? Was it because His teachings changed the world?
You have accused the Bible of being a lie. Show the proof of the lie. I am not asking you to prove a negative here. You have brought a criminal charge. Since you did so it is encumbered on you to produces the evidence that will establish the charge beyond a reasonable doubt. It is the right of all believers to question your "facts". In the past I have done this when I accused evolution and spontaneous life generation of being a lie.. Some saw my evidence and believed, others rejected the thesis. None have been able to show that the science I quoted was erred. It's now your turn.. yet us see your evidence.. IHS Jim

That's why it's so hard to deny the Holy Ghost, because you have to have a real and true knowledge of God in order to be able to commit the unpardonable sin. There are people who are given a knowledge of these things, but faith is a prerequisite. Under most circumstances, someone who doesn't believe will still not believe even if the heavens open and the angels come down to convince that person. Those who know may or may not be lying, but those who lack faith will not believe when shown a true witness.

yeah, I hear ya. Jesus came back. But who can prove that. The bible says he did, but the New Testament was written by mostly his disciples,,mostly, Luke was actually a Doctor of Science. Yep, you are right, this is an impossible question. But at the same time NO ONE can prove that there is nothing after death and the grave either. I rather put my stake in Jesus. That way, I won't have to find out when it is too late. Anyways what do I have to loose. Living for God is good, clean conscience, happy family, part of a church family. I have lived in the world, I don't miss it. But if I fall one step from God, I miss him. Boy, I sure do love that invisible man.

What about Jesus, he came back from the dead!

I know skeptics refuse to believe that but Paul wrote in his First letter to the Corinthians that 500 people saw Jesus after his resurrection. Paul wrote this letter about 20 years after the resurrection and points out that most of the 500 were still alive and could verify what they saw. That is why the anti-christian Roman and Jewish authorities were unable to produce one single witness who could testify "Hey, I was there and it didn't happen the way those Christians say it did"

No one disputes the validity and historicity of Paul or his First Corinthians letter, and 500 witnesses do not have the same hallucination or participate in a fraud without at at least one person spilling the beans. Look how just as few as 10 people couldn't keep Watergate secret.

If Jesus returning from the dead was not true then why would the first Christians have celebrated Communion and Baptism if Jesus had remained dead? History teaches that the Christians began celebrating The Lord’s Supper within 20 years of Jesus’ resurrection. Communion commemorates the sacrificial death of Jesus by celebrating the blood he shed and how his body was broken.

Why would they do this if Jesus’ death had been meaningless? This would be like a John F. Kennedy fan club celebrating his death instead of his life and legacy. Further, the early Christians changed the meaning of baptism from a Jewish cleansing ritual to mean "buried with Christ and raised to life with him." (Romans 6:4).

Why would the disciples die for a lie? We see in the Gospels that they were basically cowards. Why did these timid lambs suddenly change into the lions of the faith? Yes, people die for what they believe is true, but people do not die for what they know is NOT true. History says all of the disciples were killed for their faith except John who died of natural causes after spend years in prison.

The church started with a small rag tag group of mostly poor people who were murdered and persecuted for their belief. Within two hundred years, it conquered Rome. We name our dogs Nero and Caesar and our children John and Paul. Thousands of churches and changed lives stand as a testament to the resurrection.

And you have the conversion of skeptics. Scores of non-believers, including Jesus’ own brothers, Paul and atheists, have put their faith in Christ after seeing him alive or examining the evidence.

But still you demand more proof?

The same text that says it's not ok to lie is the same text that makes a claim about life beyond death.

Jesus Christ died and rose again. He appeared to His disciples, and then to a group of about 500 people. Those people were eyewitnesses to the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ. And the Romans tortured and killed them for it for the next 300 years until Constantine ended the persecution. No one will die for what they know to be a lie. Christians are still being tortured and killed for their faith in communist and muslim countries to this day. How much more proof do you need?

On the contrary, there are documented, medical reports of people who were clinically dead for several minutes. Those people came back with some interesting experiences to report .

i don't think anyone claims to know what will happen after death. i think that they are probably guided by what they read in scripture. the really important thing is not to worry about it if your death isn't imminent. we are meant to live. also, if you're an atheist, why do you care if it is a lie or not? not going to happen, right?

as for wanting people to provide you with proof about the afterlife...i can only think of one way for them to do that and give you complete satisfaction on what comes next....and i do believe it is illegal in the states....

It is a lie to claim that myth is truth. The affirmation of an ability to know about the existence of a good one in Heaven at war with an evil one cast down to and ruling over Earth is a fraud that follows from the lie that myth is truth. Conservative ideological authorities perpetrate this fraud inorder to be able; to make threats against the life and or afterlife of anybody who does not submit to their authority; and to extort from communities of faithful believers tithes and offerings in exchange for a lifelong indoctrination in a standard of conduct that these same ideological authorities proclaim to be the discovery of the truth about the will of a good one in Heaven at war with and evil one cast down to and ruling over Earth. Extortion based on threats made against the life and or afterlife of others and or a fraudulent affirmation of an ability to know about the existence of a good one in Heaven at war with an evil one cast down to and ruling over Earth should be considered a crime against humanity because in committing acts of extortion based on fraud that follows from the lie that myth is truth these ideological authorities lead communities of faithful believers to have a low esteem of self and world that is not conducive to happiness and good health.
