I saw some signs posted on poles of the streets where I live. These are signs telling people to vote. However, there are two versions, yes you guessed it, one in English and one in Spanish. I was so incenced by this and thought about writing over the Spanish version" LEARN TO SPEAK ENGLISH AND STOP TURNING THE U.S. INTO THE THIRD WORLD WHERE YOU CAME FROM"

Would I get arrested for this?

Melissa Ramos:

didn't you you have an illegal immigrant husband at home to tend to??

Don't give me the crap about what's going on in Miami, that place is, as far as I am concerned, a lost cause.

People like you keep using multiculturalism as their pathetic excuses for those who are simply to bloody lazy to learn the Language(or to obey the laws ) of the country they want to "get a better life" from. These people came here to benefit from what the U.S. has achieved politically and economically, the U.S. has every right to ask them to speak and write in the language that is used by all governmental agencies.
If I want to move to Germany, I would make sure that I do the same thing as I did before coming to this country: "LEARN THE LANGUAGE BETTER THAN MOST NATIVE SPEAKERS"!!!!

It would most likely depend on your local laws....however your question gave me another thought...since only citizens can vote, and in order to be a citizen you must be able to read, write and speak english...then why the need for the spanish sign? things that make you go hmmmmmm....

Reading through these answers, why am I not surprised to see that the FIRST introduction of the "race" card comes from someone with an hispanic last name (who doesn't know much about English punctuation)?

This has nothing to do with race, and carrying on about hair and eye colors is pure spin. This question has to do with wanting to make English the official language. That means not German, not Italian, not French, not Chinese, not Tagalog, and not Spanish -- English.

I live in California. My sample ballots are printed in NINE languages. Setting aside all other aspects of that issue, think about the printing cost to the taxpayers for that. Nine pages for one?

Just remove the Spanish ones, writing back to them will only make some people angry and cause them to pay MORE attention to the sign.

How about calling your Senator and rant to them>That will do more<> As the illegals couldn't read the sign in English>

No. The signs aren't supposed to be put on the poles to begin with. You can just pull them down if you wish.

I prefer to see things in English myself, but...

One of the problems is that we have no "Official" language, English is just the de facto language. Because of that, technically, there is nothing wrong with other languages, in the eyes of government law. In fact, voting instructions and ballots are available in multiple languages in some areas. Our tax dollars pay for the printing of these.

Also, think about it this way... what if a person has immigrated here legally, knows enough English to pass naturalization, and is in the process of perfecting their English, but still feel more comfortable with their first tongue. I think I'd feel better if they fully comprehended the messages, rather than risk misinterpretation.
