I do not think that we all have the right to own and carry a gun. This is not the old west. I lost a nephew 35 years ago. He was only 7 years old. His older brother shot him by accident. Please don't say it was the parents fault. That gun should not have been in the house. A robber will not wait until you put your gun together so you can shoot him. Most of the guns that the criminals have were stolen out of the homes they rob. I have a neighbor who's daughter is in prison because she had a gun and shot and killed the woman who was cheating with her husband. She shot and killed her rival in a heat of passion. This lady had never been in trouble a day in her life. She is in her 50's and was a school teacher.

News Flash! The law abiding Americans are not the enemy. No matter how many laws are written and passed outlawing guns, type of guns, and usage of guns will work in 'Gangster Land.'
Outlaws don't respect the law except when they can use it to their advantage. How many guns are being sold out of the trunks of vehicles on any street in America? How many are being stolen from hunting stores, sports shops, pawn shops, etc... Go after the source of the problem not the innocents that follow the law.
As far as your grandchildren, teach them the right way to live, act, talk, dress, behave, etc... and they will grow up into responsible adults.
I am sure that you have a good reason for your position and I applaud you for making it. But make sure you go after the guilty not the innocent. By the way, I do not own a gun.

Besides the fact that you put this in the wrong section, I personally agree with you somewhat. The fact that most people use guns to kill is true - however, if there were no guns, two things would happen.
First, there would be a huge black market of illegal guns being made and imported, and that would just cause bigger costs and issues for law enforcement. And second, people would find new ways to defend themselves, and use possibly more dangerous weapons, since guns would not be readily available.
In conclusion, it is highly impractical to completely wipe out the selling of hand guns, because most of the guns we see are being used correctly and in a safe way, and because there would be considerate cost issues and many businesses would have to be shut down. I think we should further limit access to certain hand guns to the general population, but not outlaw them completely.

When they get crack of the street you might have an argument. The fact is they cant and if law abiding citizens give up there guns the only ones with guns will be the criminals. That is insane.
The problem is not guns the problem is poverty. Poverty is rampant because those in power and own the media want the working class people to be divided. Divide and conquer and lower wages. There tool is racism.
The problem isn't guns the problem is in the Hampton's, Beverly hills and Aspen Colorado.

First of all you've got it backwards....I take it you are from another country so let me explain a few things. For one thing a gun doesnt just get up pull its trigger and shoot itself without a person meaning to do it. So people kill. Secondly, its not a matter of being selfish or unselfish. You are acting as if everyone in America walks around with a gun. I dont. I dont even know how to use one. Neither do most people I know. I am no NRA activist, but my advice to you is to stop judging America based on the few freaks that walk around shooting people. Instead of verbally attacking America, why not try to do something about the terrorists in the middle east that are threatening nuclear weapons. I am sure that people where you are from carry guns. Where its illegal, there is a black market for it...so the criminals would get guns anyway, and they way you want things, law abiding citizens would have no way to defend themself. I doubt your country is gun free. Stop judging. Problems dont start with guns they start with ignorant people like you that judge things they dont understand, and then get violent because God forbid there are people out there who are differnet. Thats why people die, not because guns exist.

What you say is fair enough but it's not that simple. If every gun in America was destroyed today there would be many more guns smuggled into the country tomorrow -- and only the bad guys would be armed. Is that what you want? The United States has thousands of miles of open borders and coastline. The gun genie is out of the bottle whether we like it or not.

Then why, in years past, when more people owned guns and even young boys knew how to use them, were there LESS murders?
We have the right to arm ourselves for the defense of our families and nation, if needed.
A sad side effect is that some evil people will kill others with those arms.

Guns cannot kill without someone firing it.
the Second Amendment provides the use of firearms to protect ourselves.
Why should guns be outlawed? Criminals are going to break the law anyway, so now the citizens cannot protect themselves.
I don't have a gun but I agree citizens should be allowed to carry one. It is the background checks and businesses who are not obeying the law.

This is entirely not about religion, but since you've asked...
Banning gun ownership in the US would be futile. It would be a waste of money and man-power paramount to our current "drug war". It would do little in reducing the number of active guns on the street, and nothing to reduce the manufacturing of arms. War will always dictate a need for weapons.
The second amendment of the constitution was written in order to ensure that we would be able to overthrow a tyrannical government should it come to that. That premise is a little ridiculous in the modern age (I personally think we missed that window of opportunity), but the need for a society that can defend itself in an age of terrorism is anything but ridiculous.
Keep in mind also that Switzerland is one of the safest countries to live in. Every single home there has at least one assault rifle.

ok, take the guns away. But now you have a problem. The 'bad' people have the guns whether they're legal or not. (They'll get their guns no matter what they have to do to get them) Now what are the nice law abiding citizens going to do when someone puts a gun to their face?
