The Navy actually seems to be gone away more. Something new the Navy started was putting sailors in Iraq. These Iraq tours count as a shore tour. So a sailor could go from a sea tour, to 1 year in Iraq, to another sea tour.
I was stationed on a ship for 6 months even though Im Army. Being on a ship was not fun. It was worse then being on a base in Iraq. It was like prision. In that Six months, we had one port call for 2 days. Yes, your ship does stop at places on the way to a place, but once you get to that place, you can be on station for months doing "un-reps." The ship was neat for about a week. Then it just turned into a prision.
Navy does have better education opportunities. Base locations are generally better, when your at the base. Promotion as an officer is generally the same as the Army. It mostly done on a timeline of boards.
In the Army, yes, you will go to the war. Myself, I liked being on a base in Iraq better then being on a ship, if for no other reason that you can go for a run and have some variety in food.
It also felt good seeing the people you were helping on the ground. From a ship, you see very little other then then grey, white and baby blue bulkheads.
Army has its bad days too, but so does any job.
Basically what it comes down to is do you like ships. Myself, I didn't like ships prior to joining the Army, and my tour on a ship just confirmed it.

Umm...well, I've never been in, but my boyfriend's in the Navy. It's really hard on both of us, and right now, we're almost to the point of breaking up. We never get to see each other, he's always at sea (I'm in Kansas, so there's no ocean anywhere near), and he can't even get online very often. We only have phone calls most of the time, and even then, they're short, and who knows when we can talk? So the Navy is hard on relationships. At least with the Army, you can usually request to be stationed near your hometown.
I think if you really love to fly and the Army is going to let you do that, you should go for it.
Girls are suckers for Marines, though. Lol.

I would go for the Army as it always has bigger bonuses and has just as cool sites or operation. Being out at Sea for 8 months isn't for everyone plus you move up in rank much faster in the Army than you do in the Navy.
It is in your best interest to read everything you can about the military before you sign up but doing any kind of ROTC is helpful for filling out college applications.

Be careful with that whole 'guaranteed' flight training when you commission.Flight school is only 'guaranteed' to those who are branched aviation (or medical service), pass the AFAST and are medically qualified for aviation.

I'd go the Navy route. They have much better base locations along the coasts and on various islands!
