Mmmmm partly. At the time that Christianity came around it was tempting. Think about it. No responsibility for your wretched life what so ever. Give it over to Jesus and you are forgiven. You dont' have to fix it (as MANY pagan religions require) or make it right. Convert and all is well.
Many pagan religions required you to have a "place" in society. In more of them you could work your way up so to speak but in order to have law and order and survival, someone had to be in charge. Christianity comes along and says "No, no, no, we are all equal. Repent and it can be yours!"
You don't have to earn anything in Christianity. You don't have to take responsiblity in Christianity. At THAT time it sounded pretty damn good. Unfortunatly, our anscestors didnt' see the strings attached. They paid very dearly for that.
In todays world, none of that makes sense anymore. Science is disproving the Bible. Most pagan faith's don't have a "holy book" to disprove. It's flexible and involves owning yourself and your actions. Most people find satisfaction in that. Many people are returning to thier roots (yours truley) and that involves learning about the "old ways". And yes, many people are finding peace in that. A connection to who they are.
So yes in a way, Paganism CAN make more sense. To me it sure does. I am allowed to actually use my brain and think. Knowledge is power. It's encouraged. We like to argue about. We have whole freaking parties to argue about it. We take reponsibility for our actions and we fix what is done wrong. That's not the gods place, but ours. I don't ask salavation because I don't need it. I grant my own. I don't need a "personal" relationship. I have one through my blood lines.
So yeah...I think we have it right. But I admit, I'm a liiiiiiiitle biased lol

Edit: Robin W, in order to make such sweeping and severly uneducated judements on rituals and holidays, I suggest you take time to learn more then the surface theories on said rituals and learn the context and worldview so that you don't look so asinine. Have a lovely day!

That may be a part of it for some people (like me -- who felt a very deep connection with the Greek Gods from a young age), but also because there is a lot less social control by the Abrahamic religions in certain countries than the more "fundamentalist" members of those religions would like.......

Pagans are more free to be public about our beliefs and this is generating a lot of interest, even if not everyone who IS interested becomes involved in the religions they are seeing.

YES! That's what attracted me. I maintain that a spiritual philosophy needs to have some practical applications in life to be worth anything.

I love the way the Celtic pagan holidays celebrate each aspect of the life cycle at its corresponding place in the seasons. It makes sense psychologically. And since it always comes round again to birth, and even Yule is the celebration of light in the darkest time of the year, it's also about hope and continuance.

Plus pagan religions have the sense to be non-adminstrative, and don't try to dictate to people the minutae of how to live, how to think, how to feel, and have lots of room for people to believe what they believe about the details and to find our own way.

Celebrate life, find your own path - practical and sensible.

I think that Paganism is on the rise due to the Main Stream religions being too controlling.

unquestionably..spirituality is a one on one connection between a guy or woman and their deity... faith is a series of doctrines, laid down by a physique used to regulate the loads making use of spirituality as a catch the two are diametrically antagonistic. One won't be able to keep on with a non secular direction, if one is controlled by the dictates of guy's religious doctrines.

Actually, it doesn't make sense.

For example, take the Winter Solstice. The reason they lit bonfires, Yule logs, candles, etc., was a form of sympathetic magic. It was an invitation for the sun to return. They saw that the sun rose in the East a little lower in the sky day by day during the winter, and were afraid it would not come back.

We know now why the sun does that, and that it will come back every year. The ritual isn't necessary.

Then there's the Great Rite. It's supposed to ensure fertility, right? We have too many people on the planet. The last thing we need is more fertility.

Yes, and some people don't find their spirituality in Abrahamic religions. Paganism is very spiritual

I think, people are no longer just accepting what they are told. They have started thinking, researching, and studying before they make a decision. They are raising their children to know that it IS okay to think for themselves. It is the information age, and people are taking advantage of that.
