Intelligence recon and kill people. I would put their training on par, or better, than what Navy SEALs get.

The Rangers are a light infantry force. To be a Ranger, you have to be assigned to the 75th Ranger Regiment. You can go through Ranger School and be Ranger qualified with your Ranger Tab but without going to a Ranger Battalion. Check out the link below for more info and ignore the people here who are telling you not to join at all. They have the right not to join the military but that doesn't mean they should go around trying to discourage other people from joining as well. If you are a junior or a senior you can start talking to a recruiter. If you are a senior who is at least 17 you can actually enlist right now and ship to basic after graduation.

Well the better question is: Do you want to BE a Ranger? or Be Ranger qualified?

To actually BE a Ranger, meaning your assigned to a Ranger BN, then you go through RIP. After completeing RIP you get assigned to a Ranger BN and wear the Ranger Scroll.

To be Ranger qualified you go to Ranger school, which is 3 months, and basicly a leadership course. After completion you get sent back to your home unit, but are able to wear the Ranger tab.

The tab is just another tab, but to wear the scroll is a way of life.

In Ranger school they train you to be a leader. 3 months with little food, little sleep, and long walks with heavy equipment, but when you finish you can be proud and talk all the **** you want and be able to back it up.

Airborne shock troops basically. They train to seize facilities with lightning speed, and utmost in violence. They seize and hold airports awaiting follow on forces, and plenty of other missions. All quite violent I might add, great bunch to party with and there's more jeeps and Harley's in there parking lots than any other unit you'll ever see LOL

From what I here they are heavily involved in "hero worship" as it applies to the Waffen SS. I have been told that they would like to be just like them but have realized that they are much to soft to ever achieve this lofty goal!
