Having severe pains in side, below breast bone, in rib cage, pain on left side. Saw a doctor nothing done about pain, had pain on and off for over a year now and cannot take the pain any longer and want to get this resolved. Could it be a popped rib or worse? Who should I go see, ER or find a new doctor?

I would go to the ER. If the pain is severe, then it would be worth it.

If you have had this pain for over a year, the ER is not the answer for you unless this is an emergency such as pain so severe you cannot breath or pain out of control that is causing you to be hysterical.
If its possible, make an appointment with your provider and tell them you are still having the pain and they can work you up further. The ER is in the business of emergencies and as much as I hate to say it, this does not sound like and emergency...it sounds like a long term problem. I am not in any way trying to down play your problem, since I know pain can be excruciating. I just think you would be doing yourself a favor to go back to your doctor, or better yet, call him tonite. There is always someone on call for the physicians and maybe they can prescribe you a pain pill.

I would try going to a chiropractor because pain pills are only going to relieve the symptom. I had a similar problem because of my neck and back pain I think that my rib somehow became misaligned and it was very painful. It is amazing how quickly they can get rid of a pain like that. It does not hurt to get an adjustment. The thing with me is if I can see a Chiro I will not even need meds and my pain has been for 8 years now. I hope you find a solution and feel better soon:)

If its hurting right now then go to the ER. If its been on and off and not hurting at the moment then make a Dr's appt. for asap.

Try urgent care. Your pains sound horrible. Urgent care is normally cheaper than the ER and quicker.
