Yes you'll have a learners permit that you'll need to have an adult ride along with you when you drive. Unless you wait till your 18 and then I think you just go in take a road and written test and get your license.

We don't know where you live, so nobody can tell you the true answer. So the best thing to do is to call your DMV, Secretary of State, or whatever branch of government issues driver's licenses in your area.

I can tell you that in my state, if you don't get a learner's permit, you can't take driver's ed. And that means you don't get a license until you turn 18. It also means that since you didn't take the driver's ed class, your car insurance bill will be about double that of the average 16 year old who DID take the class. And if you were my kid, you'd pay every penny of that yourself for not bothering to take the simple class.

So don't get full of yourself - get the permit, take the class, learn to drive safely. There's thousands of us other drivers out here who will thank you.

You can go to the DMV website to double check, but I think after a certain age, you can get your license without getting a learner's permit. I can't imagine them making a 45 year old get there drivers license the way a 15 year old would.

Yes you have to go through the learners permit first. You do have to learn to drive and that takes time and the state/prov wants to be sure you have learned the basics before allowing you out on your own.

Of course you do. You can't just take the driving test without learning how to drive first, and you need the learner's permit to practice.

Well for sure you need to learn how to drive so you need a learner permit first.

Repeat after me "a learners permit is for learning to drive". You have to learn to crawl before you can walk.
