Too fast when the speed is beyond the limit.

Most accidents occur at rates of speed well below highway limits. Most often occur within 6 miles of their own home. I drive the highway often and most of the times accidents occur is because people aren't paying attention to the task at hand. For example: reading a map, talking on the phone, eating your breakfast lunch or dinner, putting on makeup, yelling at the kids in the back seat, reaching for the CD in the glove box, looking for your glasses, and yes believe it or not, reading the paper.

PS I forgot one...freaking out because you have just dropped a lit cigarette and now you smell something burning

well yeah higher speeds make the crash worse but do not always stop it from being an accident...they normally happen when someone is doing something stupid or not paying attention.... it would only slow down like on rural roads and people are going to fast for the turns like for example most turns you can take 20 mph faster than what the sign says ( if you have good suspension and know how to drive very well)... to be safe the city makes it that much slower...so not anytime soon.

um... the speed limit isn't constantly increasing. i only remember one speed limit change and it was like 20 years ago. most fatal accidents don't occur on the highway so there is not much correlation there. what about drunk drivers... aren't they a bigger threat? Look at the statistics of accidents that occur on the autobahn in Germany and you'd be surprised how low the fatality rate is.

Too fast is a little bit faster than the speed limit.Over 40 000 people die on car accidents in the USA alone, that is far more than in the war against terrorists!

Speed does not kill. Bad drivers kill. Once this country actually makes it somewhat of a challange to pass the driving test people are still going to die. But traffic accidents deaths are down over the past years so I dont know what you are talking about. Driving is getting safer.

Within city limit 30mph, Highway 60mph, School zones15 to 20mph, crosswalks look for flashing lites and STOP.

Anything above the posted speed limit is speeding.
That is the law.

Slowing down does not mean safer, if everyone moves at the same speed it will be much safer, instead of people going 65 and dumbasses going 80 try to pass them, then traffic moving at 75 and dumbasses going 55.
