I have recently talked to a psychologist and I was told I may have OCD. I have had images of hurting loved ones, sexual images with the opposite sex and children, and guilt, along with fears of being alone and not truly loving the person that I am with. Is this common for OCD victims?

I was a psych nurse a while back.
What you are feeling sounds a bit more than OCD.
Although it might be an extreem case of it. OCD often kicks in when our brain chemistry has used every avenue to cope with what is going on with us emotionally. For instance there are people who cut themselves or pick at their skin or pull their own hair out. The complusion is very strong.
With complusions so strong......you gotta stick with Psychitrist if you can in addition to your psychologist.

Do you have anything from your past that could be triggering this? Any big time stressors lately? And history of mental illness in the family., And please don't be afraid of the words Mental Illness. It is an illness just like any other illness.

It sounds like your brain chemistry needs help getting back on track. If doc gives you something and it doesn't help. please don't give up.

Do you ever hear voices telling you to do these things? When you get the urge or a thought in your mind -- the ones you have mentioned. Just tell yourself that this isn't truth, it is your brain chemistry messed up. And please don't act on the feelings. Please drive yourself to the closest ER or a county Psych center.

You will definatly feel guilt and fear. Again, tell your brain that this is not truth, this is unbalanced brain chemistry & that your brain needs to understand what is real and right and what isn't.

Please be free and open with your psychologist or doctor. They have heard everything. You will not be the first or last to say outloud what you are feeling.

Here is a very good site http://www.nami.org/Content/NavigationMenu/Inform_Yourself/About_Mental_Illness/About_Mental_Illness.htm Then clck on where there is a list of disorders. You will read up on OCD and probably feel yourself in the symptoms.

You have crossed the first hurdle and that is admitting and then reaching out for help.
Believe in your self and in the fact that you can be well.

Take good care of yourself.

My father has OCD, and that i've got in no way heard something like that! in many cases, OCD comprises the ought to repeat issues or do issues a definite way, like wash arms, flick on easy switches, have issues very neat and arranged, each each now and then force over a definite section, turn around and do it throughout back! in many cases repetetive issues. What you're speaking approximately would not sound like OCD. that is something else with regards to it nevertheless. i might deffinately communicate on your psychologist and ask him approximately it.
