If the cat is allergic to fleas and you treat it with flea repellent, wouldn't the allergy shots be unnecessary? As long as you keep the animal inside, continue to treat it on time each month, and do the same with any other animals in your household, risk of fleas should be low (perhaps will only show up if you have mice). You may be able to forego the allergy shot, only getting it if the cat shows symptoms. Are the symptoms very bad, meaning do they make the cat miserable, or is it a bit of leaky eye and a couple sneezes for a few days until the fleas are gone? If so, maybe you could just let the cat deal with it.
If you are fostering the cat, ask the organization you are working with to find a different foster home. If you are watching someone's cat for them, let them know you're spending tons of money and that they need to reimburse you. If it is not your cat because it's feral, adopt it and keep it in your home, then it will be your cat. I can't think of any other situation in which you would be doing this for a cat that was not yours.
In the end, if you do not wish to continue to care for this cat, please find someone who will. Also, it may be worth looking into pet insurance if the allergy shots are quite expensive. You may be able to save some money. Your vet's office or local chain pet store should have information on it.

Forget flea collars, they don't work. The shots should be good enough to keep any allergy down, but yes, the flea meds are necessary during the summer at least to keep fleas off him in the first place.
You may be able to drag it out a month and a half instead of every month, that's how long ours go before any fleas start hopping back on. Keeping the cat indoors can reduce the chance of fleas also.
Can you find a foster home for the cat if it's not yours? Or a regular home?
