I've been frying turkey for years in peanut oil but now I need to find a different oil as my girlfriend is allergic to peanuts. I haven't done it any other way. Has anyone done a turkey in anything other than peanut oil? Does it taste different? Are there any special conditions with another oil? I would just like to know other experiences with something other than peanut oil.

Our family has used peanut, sunflower, canola, safflower, and corn oil with success. They turn out roughly the same with slightly different flavor. Unless they have a significantly higher or lower boiling point or heat capacity, it shouldn't matter. The taste will be different because of the flavor of the oil.

Personally, the peanut oil adds a nice very faint peanutty taste.
But Canola and Vegetable (Soy Bean) oils are the least expensive, high smoke points and a neutral flavor, which is what I would recommend. It will still taste great.

dang peanut oil costa alot cuzz
we use regular old Crisco vegetable oil and it taste just as good and get this..you can strain and save that oil and it makes the best oil for cooking a roux with plain flour. or frying chicken, and any kind of vegetables. It lasts a long time without going bad if strained and kept capped in them same jugs you bought it in.
