ohk. i am confused about telling time in spanish.
sometimes it`s son las (#here) y (#here) .
&& sometimes its` son las (#here) menos (#here) .
then sometimes you`d have to write it starting with es la . . .
its` confusing . && how do you say it when its` ends with just o` clock ? can you help explain to me how to do this ? && give examples . thanks .

-son las # y # its just like saying its 3:15
in spanish they just say "y" which means "and"
son las #menos# its like saying quarter to one
menos means minus
son las 3 menos quince
quarter to 3
-es la just use with una
es la una y media
its one thirty
because one is singular not plural thats why u say son las with the s before the other #'s
-if its just o'clock you can simply just say
son las tres- 3 o'clock
you dnt have to say nothing after the #
spanish is a little confusing when your just learning u will get used to it... good luck

I know its confusing.... I'm in my 4th year of spanish and I still have trouble!
okay... examples
son las tres y media (its three thirty)
son las tres y cuarenta (its three forty)
OR son las cuatro menos veinte (same thing... three forty.. or in English we say it's 20 minutes to four)
es la is only used for one o'clock
(es la una y cinco..)
when you just want to say O' clock... then say
son las # y #. The menos is only to say things like "a quarter till" etc.
I hope this helps... and stick with spanish... I promise you'll get it!

you say: es la #:# for 1h pm and 1h am (1am and pm to1:59pm and am)
because its just one hour when is more than one you say las.
you say son las # menos # thats = to: it is # minus #minutes.
for exemple: son las 6 menos cuarto=
it is 6h minus a quarter(15mins)= 5:45
normally you say minus when its some hour minus a max of 20 mins. generally)
but if you dont like this you can just say it at the place of 6 menos cuarto you can say las cinco y cuarenta y cinco(5:45)you have the right to say it the way you like =)
you dont need to say o'clock (you say: en punto in spanish)
if you just tell to someone son las 6 they will understand that it its: 6:00

Much like English, you normally use "y" up to half past - it's five after / past etc

then menos up to the hour - it's quarter to, ten to etc

isn't the son/es depending on plural or singular ?

just o'clock is just the number - but you can emphasise with "en punto"

it’s four o’clock son las cuatro; it’s one o’clock es la una;
it’s twelve o’clock exactly son las doce en punto;
