I've tried several translators and dictionaries but I need to confirmation from a person because it doesn't sound right.

coups de brosse - that is a literal translation. I "googled" it and it doesn't appear to be very used...

Avoid «coup de brosse», which has a confusingly vulgar resonance. If you are referring to paintings, just say «coups de pinceau».
