There are many advantages of going to the store: you could meet somebody new or old friend you liked back in school, brand new products that come out everyday pay some bills at service desk, sometimes there are specials going on, there are some banks in stores.
Disadvantages are menacing kids, long lines at the check out, ***holes in the parking lot driving, no public bathrooms.
I would like to see more self-check out lanes.
This is about it.

I don't mind going to the grocery store. I do menu planning once a week for the upcoming week and can zip right through the store. I like very upscale grocery stores and have enjoyed shopping in the last two states we lived but since we moved to a new state, they aren't as up to speed. I finally found one that just did an upscale remodel but it's still lacking in some of the items and services I have been used to having. I love to cook and use many different items. It took forever for me to find a store selling jicama and whole bean coffee should be a standard everywhere. A good butcher is also important. The store I'm shopping in thinks that a standing rib or thick cut steaks are too expensive to keep on the shelf so I have to always request them. That takes more of my time while I wait. But that is typical of all the stores in the area. So annoying. I'm still hoping for a Wegman's or a Harris Teeter.

As you say, it's necessary. Actually, I hate the preparations before I go most. I need to straighten the panrty and the fridge before I go so I'll have room for things when I get back. It's a job.
I really hate the trudging along pushing a buggy that gets heavier and heavier and always seems to have a squeaky or bumpy wheel. :)
I've thought that a grocery srote that has one of each item on the shelf and a pocket with "take me to the cashier" tickets would be great! Naturally, you'd pick your own produce and meat; but all the canned and boxed stuff would be gathered by some hardworking fellows in back as it's being rung up. You'd just need to drive around at pick it up like at the lumber store.
Or maybe an email grocery list. I'll send the store my list, they compile the groceries and I go by and pick them up. A similar service is available in some areas, but not near me.

I HATE going to the grocery store. I try to go as late as possible just to avoid the crowds and long lines. The only "advantage" to going grocery shopping I can think of is saving money by buying and cooking your own food versus going out to eat everyday. It's pretty much a chore that I could really do without, and I usually buy as much as possible at one time so I only have to go maybe once or twice a month.

Well, I used to like it more when I first moved alone.... but I was so disorganized that I used to forget what I needed to buy and I ended up going to the supermarket 2-3 times a week -- and buying more things than what I really needed each time. Now I only go 2-3 times a month and get my produce at open air markets whenever it's necessary.
I like to take my time and walk down the aisles and see if there's new stuff, compare prices and properties of the products, etc. What I hate are the long lines at the check out.... And the mess there always is at the parking lots, no vacant spots near the door, long lines to get out, inconsiderate people who drop their carts just anywhere, etc.
In my country we don't have self service check outs but I would love to have those. I also like seeing what the supermarkets are like in other countries I visit - I don't go there unless I need to but I love to see what kind of products they have in other places, how the check outs work, etc. What I love the most at the european supermarkets is that they don't give you bags so you must bring your own to pack your stuff.... very environmentally friendly!! That should be done in USA and Mexico as well.

I enjoy it. It's some quiet time away from work, and I always run into people I know. It's fun trying out new food products and I just like looking around. Believe it or not, whenever I travel abroad one of the first places I go to is the grocery store.

It all depends on what's important to you. I'm handicapped and have difficulty getting out of the house. Our supermarket has battery operated carts I can use to shop. I look forward to going grocery shopping, although when I was raising four kids it didnt thrill me all that much. Our local store has it's deli section, bakery, pharmacy, photo processing, and even vision aids. I can get a lot taken care of in that little cart and it's fun to tool around. So far,I havent run anyone over or knocked down anything. It would be nice if the cart had a horn on it,but I'm satisfied right now.

Do you know when I was in kindergarten, I can remember loving to play store? My mom would open cans from the bottom so, when they were clean and empty, we could put them on our little "counters" in class and "sell" them.
To this day, I love, love, love going to the "market". I love going up one aisle and down another looking at all the interesting things.
There is nothing I dislike about the store, except if I get in a slow line checking out!

I hate grocery shopping. If there were a service where you could call in an order and have it delivered and they would choose the freshest products, produce, meats, etc, I'd pay whatever the delivery charge was.

I love going grocery shopping. Its like my own little private time, just meandering around the aisles, picking up what I need. Don't need to think about anyone else, or who needs what. Just me! And people tend to leave you alone - save for the young clerks who occasionally ask "finding everything you need?"
