I know... In Canada it is a felony to have a DUI. Even a first offense gets severe jail time. It should be like Canada...they don't have DUI problems up there.

Maine has "tough drunk driving laws" - some of the toughest in the country - it says so on the sign when you enter Maine from New Hampshire.
Unfortunately, these "tough" laws seem to do little to prevent repeat offenders from driving, with or without a license. Perhaps if the bleeding heart lunatics would step aside for a moment, confiscating their vehicles might be a good first step (Yes, I know this would be a hardship in some cases - but no where near as much as the drunk driver's victims or the famililies left behind.) This is not a victimless crime, and it is one of negligence and a total lack of any consideration for other people's safety and lives - and one that is easily avoided with just a tiny bit of common sense. If the only way to keep some drunken idiots off the highway is to put them behind bars - so be it. As it stands now, it seems that they only end up behind bars AFTER they kill some innocent person while driving drunk - and that doesn't make a hell of a lot of sense to me.
On the same subject, legally defending oneself in this country appears to me to be a simple matter of how much you want to spend and how much you can afford to spend. Obviously, there's no comparison between a court appointed attorney and a well paid, dedicated team of defense attorneys.
America is often touted as having the best legal system in the world - and, to me, that's just a sad commentary about the rest of the world.

The legal system in the U.S is not so different from that in many countries. The mistake applied is in the use of the term "justice" which is seldom seen or even agreed upon. What you seem to be upset about is a poor legal standard that values the material over the moral. You are not on your own though; take a trip to any country in the world and you will hear the same story.

Your guess is as good as mine. I heard this story of these two girls that had been sexually molested and beaten by their father. At the age of 18 the one girl lost it and had enough shot and killed him. She is now in jail for the rest of her life.I don't agree with what she did but doesn't deserve life in prison for basically defending herself and her sister. I think that your idea of shooting drunk drivers is a bit harsh though. Everyone has made a mistake at some point that could of cost someone else their lives. Oh and trust me this crime would still exsist. As long as there are idiots in this world there will be crime.

Crime is going to happen whether you have a lienent or harsh government. Look at China, they have 68 capital crimes you can get executed for. Including tax evasion. People still commit crimes there. The family even has to pay for the bullet they use for execution. Not to mention that they harvest the inmates organs without permission. A while back they were caught doing selective executions, to sell organs to waiting matching buyers.
Laws only serve as a deterrent, and people will always think they can get away with anything.
For all you non believers, here is a link about China's illegal organ trade

You are not making any sense clown! We were on of the first western nations to start enforce DUI Laws in the 1980s. Other nations have since caught up. You never stated whether you were victimized by a Drunk Driver or just decided to capriciously criticize the system

The main reason why is because if you have a specific crime being committed so often, the system can't punish everyone so severally if it is so common. Take marijuana for example, you used to be able to arrest someone who was in possession of it, now you just get a freaken ticket. Society is going to have an uproar or criminals and Dumbo$S's to come. That's just unfortunate.

Our justice system is one of the best in the world. You obviously haven't traveled outside the U.S. enough to know that yet. Travel and get some personal experience instead of gaining your expertise through T.V.

It probably just seems that way because you have a skewed view of "Justice". Shot on sight, really? We have a thing called "Due Process" in this country, it ensures that people don't get shot on sight by mistake.

Got a better idea. If you prefer such laws, move your sorry butt to North Korea. You're just the kind of person they're looking for.
As for me, I'll stick with the Constitution of the United States.
