I am an atheist and this is what I believe. I consider being here a wonderful thing and I plan to enjoy it to the end.

I would. Because im not very happy. But then I look at pictures from poor people in Africa or war victims or the Holocaust victims and Im pretty grateful that I have not suffered that much yet.

Yes I think life is somewhat a misfortune for most at some point.

But I have been in love before, although the girl I loved did not feel the same for me, I did feel what the feeling of love feels like, is like you can fly and life seems like a dream. But been heartbroken feels like hell and full of saddnes and despair. Lonelyness is sad too.

But life could be amazing. But unfortunately it isn't.

Without God there is no hope. Without hope life is cruel. Because even if I met the girl of my dreams and married her and start a family, still, old age and sickness and death is right around the corner for all of us.

So yes, without God, without Hope, life is a misfortune. But I do thank God for those special magical moments that I did enjoy, even if they are few and short.

I imagine eternal life, with a girl you love and a family you create, in a perfect planet... like the one Adam and Eve had before they sinned. That hope makes life worth living and fighting.

But without God, life is a cruel joke.

If there was no God, I couldn't be "brought" into existence. It would just happen. And after careful consideration, I don't see how it would be a misfortune. It just wouldn't last forever. And if it turns out that there's no afterlife, then I'll never know about it. Once I cease to exist, so would my consciousness.

Why would I make an assumption about a fact. Existence is, just like it is in an infinite number of other universes. Why would it be a misfortune?

Now if there was a god, that would be bad as it seems to want to hide all evidence of anything that it has claimed to do. This would indicate that it was paranoid or that it hadn't really done what it said it did (creation comes to mind). This is not a pretty picture in either case.

No, I would call it a blessing that there is a God loving enough to give me life, and abundantly, with no other reason that to know there is a God that loves me enough so I can see a sunrise, a sunset, hear the ocean he made, feel the warmth of the sun or the cold of winter, I am grateful there is a God loving enough to walk through his creation, to the top of a mountain and see for miles. I am thankful there is a God loving enough to know that he touches my heart and soul each time I talk to him in prayer and a lot of those prayers have been answered and to see them come to fruition in my lifetime. A "misfortune?" -- Hardly, not even close, you missed the bus jack.
A Blessing definately--pressed down, shaken, and overflowing beyond comprehension.

I tried this once--years ago--and I never went back to assuming that there was a "God"..and my life has actually been better and the future is actually full of hope, instead of the end "always being nigh, and everyone around me deceived in Satan and the like..

No, I don't feel like my existance is a misfortune!

Not a misfortune, no. Just an interesting happenstance. But if that's the case its alright with me. I do believe in the Golden Rule, absolutely. However, the rhyme or reason for it all is a mystery to me. Perhaps some day we'll know?

In order for me to believe there is no God or afterlife it would have to have been pounded into my head from birth for whatever reason by the society I was born in. That's because I believe there in as inherent inkling, a knowing from deep inside that tells humans there is a God. To not believe in God has to be taught because of this reason.
But to answer your question I guess I would consider regretting my existence for if there were no God or any awareness after the body dies there would be nothing to keep people behaved. It would be a very violent and barbaric world to live in.

I wish you Peace.

if this was the only life, I'd still want to be good and help people. I would not consider it a misfortune but an opportunity.

Not at all. I already assume that God doesnt exist. And I do not feel my life or existence is a misfortune. Maybe for others, but not for me!

I wouldn't consider it a misfortune. Afterlife or not, I would rather have experienced life than never to have experienced any life at all.
