I'm planning on going to Southern California. I'm taking the kids. We're going to Universal, but they close at 6:00pm. Where else should I take them (i.e., fun places to eat, sight seeing, etc).? They are 15, 12 and 8.

I would like to know like the hidden places to go. Like where to get the best food. I know there is a hot dog place there (don't know what it's called) that people stand in line around the block to get. Places the locals go that are well known to them.

Ummm, are you sure Universal closes at 6:00 pm ??? Seems kind of early, I've seen crowds flowing into City Walk at like 8 or 9 o'clock..You might be right but I would recheck the time of closing..then do what Monica above said---those are good ideas...and you can take the subway to the El Capitan and Grauman's if you wish..

EDIT: Note the Griffith Observatory still requires reservations this year..

Last time I tried to go to Ed Debevic's it was no longer there. Hmmmmmmm.
Melrose is great for shopping. You can take the kids to Santa Monica Pier, they have fun rides and stuff and a fun restaurant, BubbaGump Shrimp Co. :D Make sure you tell them it's your first time and watch Forest Gump before you go VERY CLOSELY because they have a cool little question quiz game after your meal...HAHA...my kids love it. Venice has cool stuff to see and do as well. When are you going? Transformers is playing at IMAX theater for a limited time, that's cool.....There is also disneyland, magic mountain, Knotts Berry Farm....oh and close to Knotts is 2 very cool dinner theater restaurants; Pirate Dinner adventure www.piratesdinneradventure.com and Medieval times www.medievaltimes.com your kids might like that too....really fun. Southern California has so many great things to see and do. The observatory at Griffith Park is open again, there is the museum of science and natural history and the Le Brea Tar pits......

The hot dog place you are referring to is called Pink's. It's on La Brea Ave close to Melrose.

There's hollywood and highland. There is the kodak theather there, movie theater, shopping, restaurants and its on hollywood blvd. YOu can see the El Capitan, Chinese theater, Ripley's believe it or not, and the Hollywood walk of fame all on one street.

You can always head up to the Hollywood sign and the Griffith Observatory.

There is a great old time diner called Ed Debevic's where they have great food and entertainment for the whole family. It's on La Cienega. Closest cross street is Wilshire.

City Walk is located just outside of Universal Studios and there are restaurants and shops but its all pretty touristy. There are plenty to see and do in Hollywood. You could watch a movie at El Capitan, check out Graumans, shop at Hollywood & Highland, etc.

Wow, that's a great style of questions. l. a. is lots bigger than Toronto, and public transit via rail is only now installation a foothold. truthfully, you have some rail, in spite of the fact that that's many times bus provider, this is inefficient to cover one in each and every of those huge section (the metro section is truthfully over 10,000 sq. miles. Transit is rather constrained interior the previous due evenings. you do not could desire to agonize on the subject of the gangs. many times, they simply kill one yet another, and stay in small wallet of the city. in case you like Mexican nutrition, it is the situation. There could desire to be 10,000 Mexican eating places interior the metro section. you are able to initiate up with a pair at Olvera street, this is the place la all started. yet in any community, there is often some close by places the place the locals prefer to eat. you do not could desire to bypass far. the final tacos in l. a. are at Tito's Tacos. the final fish tacos are at Taco Nazo. you do not could desire to correctly known any Spanish, in spite of the fact that it helps. do not bypass to TJ. that's not risk-free any further. It was once, yet there's a great style of drug violence down there. no one's risk-free. TJ is approximately half-hour south of downtown San Diego, yet you may get almost the comparable adventure at Olvera street in l. a., or old city in San Diego. each and all the particular sense, with out the possibility of having killed. As for taking a image with a Border Patrol Agent, that must be a no-no, when you consider that they're federal brokers and the regulations are diverse than with NYC cops. you are able to ask, yet they are going to probable say no. check out my different solutions in this communicate board for each and all the stuff to do in l. a.. I ran out of room answering your different questions. have exciting!
