It's hard to put specific dates on things like these. Being a politician it was a slow and subtle shift of policy rather than standing up and making a bold announcement.

There were signs that Howard was changing his opinion as far back as early last year, by the middle of last year it was apparent that he would have to make some sort of move soon.

One of the most obvious indications on his change of policy came along with the announcement that Australia was going ahead with plans to build the world's largest solar energy plant in order to curb greenhouse gas emissions, this would have been about last October.

When George W Bush made his State of the Union Address in January he had been advised to model his U-turn on global warming on the way John Howard had.

I think it would be safe to say that in early 2006 Howard was hinting at changing his stance, by mid 2006 it was clear he was changing and by late 2006 he had fully switched.

I don't know what the MOBO awards are but I think that John Howard is a very good Prime Minister. He has Australia's best interests at heart and has done a great job. If you think Australia is a monocultural society then you are either naive or ignorant. The Government wants immigrants to adopt Australian laws when they come to live over here, not to follow their own 'religious laws'. If they want to live in a democracy then they abide by that democracy, they are not exempt from our laws just because they don't agree with them. The Muslim party have been complaining that we should introduce Islamic law well why the hell should we? If they want to move to another country then they accept our laws damn it. How dare they come over here and try to change the laws of our democracy to suit themselves. I have nothing against the Muslim community but HOW DARE THEY?
