First things first I am not breeding my rats- just so we're all clear on that, but I am trying to understand rat genetics- my question is regarding himmy or siamese rats, would you breed such a rat to an albino or other high white rat- I think this mating would result in faint markings, or albino offspring- or do you breed to another Himmy/siamese. Can you breed a Himmy to say a black hooded, and produce himmy babies- or do both parents absolutely have to carry c/ch or ch/ch genes?
I hope I don't sound silly, but I really want to know everything about my rats..
When breeding himalayan cats, each parent cat absolutely must carry the himalayan gene to reproduce himalayan offspring- I'm wondering if the same is true for rats?

Thanks

While I can't answer your question, I did find it interesting that one of our rats, who was pregnant when we adopted her, was a siamese with such faint markings that I though she was a PEW for the first month, & her pups included 2 *beautifully* marked siamese & 3 black berkies. Obviously, we had no idea what papa rat's coloring might have been.

She ought to especially a lot finally end up with any mix of the characteristics you merely suggested. additionally, fairly some the domestic dogs ought to hold characteristics of their grandparents besides. positioned as many mixtures of those characteristics at the same time as you could, and those are what she ought to finally end up with realistically. till the domestic dogs are born, there is in many cases no longer too many assistance on the thank you to tell what she might or won't finally end up with, as they might address characteristics from the two parent, or the two. occasion, she ought to finally end up with a million/2 a muddle that took the rex trait from the father, and the different a million/2 of the muddle might have a time-honored coat. Genetics might nicely be slightly no longer user-friendly, in any animal.
