I agree with both answers above mine, he was ... magic.

I saw a biography special on his impact to dance, and how he influenced an entire generation of young men in the 50s to dance, and that it was masculine and appealing... something that has since faded as young boys heroes have often become sports figures. But dance is very athletic too, especially the way Gene Kelly danced!

I don't know that he changed my life directly, but he sure has already influenced my son's. We were watching Singing In The Rain when he was in preschool and my son leans over to me and says, "Hey Mommy can I get a pair of those shoes?" He was insistent, and started tap that fall and has been dancing for 5 years now.

He was one of the greatest dancers of the 40's and 50's. He was in many musicals, one of the most famous was "Singing In The Rain." His dance moves made him appear he was dancing on air. If you haven't done so already, I suggest you rent a copy of "Singing In The Rain", and you will see what I am talking about.
