The serpent was a snake that had legs and arms. It was able to stand upright. But when the snake tempted Eve to bite the apple and take it to Adam for him to eat, GOD made the serpent/snake to slither on the ground on it's belly for the rest of its life. (That is why all snakes slither on the ground.)

Of course not. If it had been a lizard the Bible would have called it a lizard. The scriptures never err. I suspect that before God cursed it, the serpent moved much like the snake in Q-Bert.

Who knows?

The Aztecs thought that at least some snakes once had feathers and that they flew.

As for your nit picking at words, I noticed that a legless lizard (yes, there are such a thing -- see links below) are still referred to as "lizards" by scientists, NOT as "snakes", so why wouldn't a four legged snake still be called a serpent?

Serpent is a collective term I believe referring to Satan as a dragon sometimes . That is my belief I also don't find lizard anywhere else in the Bible so there is no real reason to believe that they whould have made the distinction between an iguana, lizard, alligator or snake it's just serpent

The line I'd been fed was that snakes were what became of the dinosaurs when God lopped off their legs. But ostensibly, given the context in which the passage had been written and the fact that no description of it anywhere sounds even remotely dinosaur-like, it was actually probably supposed to imply snakes as we already know them, but with arms and legs like a Chinese or ancient Toltec/Incan dragon.

Well I would say it was probably like the sort of serpent you would think of if you thought of a Chinese serpent dragon. you know long with scales and arms and legs with the black goatee thing. lol. but the Bible and Christianity demonized it and chopped off its legs and made this little story up to make it seem like Ancient Chinese religions were evil. They have demonized numerous religions/places/holidays to benefit their religion so it would not surprise me.
