I Wondering because the shot shell ammo was next to some shotshell ammo that was for pistols.

And does anyone think shotshell ammo would be good for squirrel hunting.

.22 Long Rifle Shot Shells contain tiny #12 birdshot, and they lack any true power to speak of. Great for Snakes at 15 ft or less, but not for anything like a Squirrel. They can be fired out of a Pistol or Rifle safely, and won't harm the rifling or the barrel interior. Next time you are in a Sporting Goods store that sells ammunition as the clerk to show you a pack of CCI 22 Shotshells. They have a clear blue tinted plastic tip that you can see just how small the shot size is first hand...These are also made in a.22LR "crimped" end shotshell by Remington and several other big manufacturers.CCI also makes these in 22 Magnum caliber, (38 Special caliber, made to shoot out of a 38 Special or 357 Magnum Pistol).......

No problem to shoot .22 shot shells out of a .22 rifle. Done that often. Only good for short distances for squirrel hunting.Better choice is the .22 short CB since it's powerful enough but will not endanger other people in the area.(lower velocity) it's also cheaper ammo.

Yes, but overall that shot is fairly useless. I've used it to collect small birds for nasal mite surveys for a museum in TX. They are best shot out of a single shot, as the crimping expands when shot, and can jam in pumps, and semi-autos. probably work alright in a bolt-action.
No good for squirrels.
If you're looking for quieter ammo for a .22 bc of nosy neighbors, you might try sub sonics and cb's.

We shot a bunch of the "blue capsule" and the "crimped" style .22 shot shells out of rifles. They fed fine in a lever action and a bolt action, but would not cycle in the semi-auto. We used them to clear pigeons out of a barn without shooting a bunch of holes in the roof. It did a good job on the pigeons too, as they were never more than about 50 feet away. I don't think it would humanely kill a squirrel though.

You may shoot it from a rifle but I think it's made for pistols....and for shooting snakes.

You cannot use it for hunting anything like a squirrel, it has almost no range. Get yourself some proper .22LR ammo made for hunting small game.
