The best approach to searching for money for college is utilizing more than one approach. You can actually find scholarships on the web and in your community for free. I recommend applying for any scholarship you qualify for no matter the amount. I recommend you starting your scholarship search in your junior year because there are some out there for high school juniors. I have included some free resources below to help you find money for college.

First, apply for the FAFSA in either January or early February of your senior year of high school. The amount awarded is based on a percentage of your income and savings along with your parents' income and savings. With you not working during the shcool year, this could work to your benefit since your income and savings count at a higher rate than your parents when it comes to college financial aid.

Second, your high school guidance office has a list of local scholarships and some state government scholarship programs. Some of the state programs out there are based on your school grades.

Third, the public library has a book listing scholarships with some of them not listed on the web.

Finally, join several free membership scholarship search websites. It will include a profile for you to complete, but it will help narrow your scholarship search to ones that you qualify for based on the information entered. There are scholarships for almost anything including wearing duct tape to the high school prom.

Good luck!
