You would be surprised how many C of E clergy dislike the vestments
Personally i find it irritating when they do not were them.
So far as washing up is concerned again I'm sure that the younger ones anyway are just as likely to pitch in when things go wrong or indeed help
I find with exceptions that he younger clergy only wear the "dog collar" to help on visits to hospitals etc
I usually see our curate listening to an I/pod when he is out for a walk.

I have seen many of our Priests in everyday clothes and I also know that just because they choose to get out of the black garb does not ever mean that they stop being Priests. I know this one for fact an I think it is great that they do try for some normalcy in their lives. They deserve it as much as we do. I like to see them in everyday clothes as to me it is a release but not the kind of release from doing God's work. One of my favorite priests has 5 children (he was married) and on Christmas Day he made a very happy announcement for he and his family that his first grandchild had been born.

There is just something very warped & depraved about Vicars & Priests who partaketh in a bit of the old dressing up..in those kinky frocks.... what is running through their minds when they slip into the outfits ? Who knows...but surely its not morally right - I couldnt imagine Jesus pulling on a pair of pretty polly stockings - under his gown....

I would think that it gives some of them some satisfaction. I usually wear a maid or cleaners uniform but I do like to wear a pretty dress from time to time

rYes, I do, our pastor wears normal clothes, smart, but normal. He is not part of a man made hierachy, just a leader in the church, he even washed up at my daughters wedding. Cant imagine a vicar or priest, in his flowing gowns, rolling up his sleeves, and washing up after the service!

I think it is their particular faith which makes them "dress up". However, Christ never set a dress code for his ministers.
