Sin. It is the reason Christ came to the world to atone for sin and to bring man to God's righteousness.
This is not the perfect paradise God has in mind for us.
Sin will not inherit the kingdom of Heaven.
Sin is the reason for all that is wrong with this world.
Without sin there is no death.

A good question, and not an easy one to answer, because the answer is quite complex. There have been books written on this subject that in my opinion give pretty lame answers. There are several factors that play into this. For one, there is a devil, and secondly, God gave man freedom of will, and dominion over the earth. The fact is that God is not in charge. Man is, and man screwed it up. The evil is certainly not God’s desire.

Eze 33:11 Say unto them, [As] I live, saith the Lord GOD, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked; but that the wicked turn from his way and live: turn ye, turn ye from your evil ways; for why will ye die, O house of Israel?

Not only is God a good God, but he is also a just God. In his goodness he cannot allow evil to continue eternally. In order to do this without stepping outside of his goodness or justice, there are certain sacrifices that he has to make. If he were to simply destroy all that is evil, he would be stepping outside of his goodness. It almost seems like he is waiting for evil to destroy itself.

In order for him to show his mercy, he needs to let evil continue for a season because some of us will repent, and those of us who do, he forgives, but his justice will not sleep for ever. There is a day coming when all who do not repent will be cast into the lake of fire.

I look at life as a school. Here we learn that we are not righteous. Not one of us. It doesn’t matter how hard we try, We still need Jesus.

Edit:

Bad stuff also happens to God’s people when they are disobedient to him. All through the Old Testament bad stuff happened to Israel whenever they were disobedient. There are still conditions on God’s blessings today.

Since the beginning of human life, we have created gods; not to worship, but to rationalise our existence and to give reason and explaination to things our developing mind can’t begin to comprehend.

Life without reason has a void, a merciless paradox. God fills that void, god is a reason. The example you’ve made in the question illustrates this perfectly; all the zealots are bungling over themselves to excuse God and to excuse themselves for the horrors of life, the dark side of humanity. The truth is; murder, rape, genocide and war are all due to human greed and blinding paranoia. We do this to ourselves, there is no god.

Why do good people suffer and Bad people live?
Good people are weaker because they share the burden of others. They then become easy prey to immorality. Being good is being happy but at the same time, being exploited. The balance comes in the knowledge that bad people are rarely happy.

Dominic it was never meant to be this way. God created a perfect world for us to inhabit. God supplied everything we needed and allowed us to make our good & bad choices. What we decide to do affects everyone else around us - but sadly responsibility for our actions can be lacking. How do you think God feels about the way humans behave? - He is allowing it for now - but there's a time comming when He will step in and end this world as we know it. There will be a judgement day and all will give an account of their lives. Psalm 37 tells us one day the wicked will be no more - in Gen: God said He regretted giving life to humans for their wickedness was great - so God brought the flood & saved Noah & his family b/c they were righteous. God isn't to blame for our actions, we are fully responsible. We are living in a world that's turned it's back on God - Jesus came to reconcile us back to God. Hope this helps.
Be Blessed : x )

It's a balance thing. We have to have bad things happen to balance out the good stuff.
Babies are raped because some very sick people like to rape babies.
The Holocaust happed because somebody was scared that people that didn't look like him or had more money were different and therefore had to die.

The World we live in sucks and blows at the same time.

The answer stares you in the face. Why are you so obtuse? Why are your eyes so firmly and tightly shut?

He allows you to sin. Should He judge you instantly?

Why should He allow you to sin and not others?

In His mercy he allows you to sin that you might know your state and repent. Else He could judge you instantly the first time you sin.

Because judgement is not executed speedily, is you heart fully set to do evil?

In fact, in His mercy He restrains the greater part of sin and the majority of those types of sin that you describe.

He allows the smaller part to show the utter depravity of man.

Do you suppose that you are superior to everyone else? Are you really that self righteous?

So does and is everyone else.

Yet the testimony of experience as well as God's word totally refutes the self righteousness of man.

You really are very blind and self centred.

Yet the goodness of God is stretched out to you daily. Why don't these things happen to you?

Do you enjoy God's blessings instead?

Still you won't turn. Such is the hardness of your heart and the greatness of your sin.

And thinkest thou this, O man, that judgest them which do such things, and doest the same, that thou shalt escape the judgment of God?
Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance?
But after thy hardness and impenitent heart treasurest up unto thyself wrath against the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God;
Who will render to every man according to his deeds.

His goodness and forbearance and longsuffering is to give opportunity for repentance.

All this is in the Bible. How could you have missed it all?

Now that the whole world has their answer, and you too, you have no excuse.

Now you will have to face your immense sin.

When God created Adam and Eve, he gave them a perfect paradise in which to live. They had everything they could ever had needed. God gave them a free will, to either obey Him or not. God told them everything in the Garden Of Eden was OK for them to eat or use, except one tree. That was the Tree Of The Knowledge Of Good And Evil. God said , Do not eat of that tree. So, what do they do ? They rationalized that nothing that bad would result from eating from that tree. Satan was telling them that God was trying to deny them some pleasure. So, they did it. From that point on, sin came into the world, and bad things have happened to good & bad alike. The Bible says that rain falls on both the good and the bad. God's ways are unsearchable & without faith in the fact that God knows what He is doing & that He is in complete control, it's impossible to understand these mysteries.

It's an interesting question. Some people will say that He doesn't interfere in our free will and THAT'S why bad things happen, but of course those people are conveniently forgetting things that they themselves believe in, including the flood and the obliteration of Sodom and Gomorrah wherein God supposedly exterminated a very large number of people including men, women, children, babies and animals who's behavior He didn't approve of. So, again, it's a troublesome contradiction.

God does not choose our actions. i mean everyone does whatever they want to do. God does not tell anyone to rape anyone its the person who chooses for themselves. I think that good people are put through tests to see if they still believe. Good people may have a not so good life but will certainly have a good life in heaven whereas people who have a good life now but sin will surely be not have a good life in the afterlife
